Locking solved topics?

Illori brought up a valid point here:

http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=514652.msg3792546#msg3792546

There are topics that have been marked solved for a lengthy period of time and then someone will post in it with a similar question ... then we get confusion as to whether or not the problem has been solved a second time or the thread gets skipped over as Bruno and others have mentioned many times.

Any reason not to lock these solved topics after x amount of time?

I generally would say that this is a bad idea.
Even in Topic Solved support topic there are tricks to lock the topic when marked solved but I disagree.

That topic is a good example: my code is buggy but the original member didn't realize it because it has no empty boards. Some time later someone makes use of the same trick and finds problems in it. It can and should use the same topic, as the member did. If the topic was locked this fix wouldn't be possible.

IMO there should be as few locked topics as possible. Locked topics are evil ;D

That's why I'm glad I'm not shy about asking these things lol ... thanks Bruno, that makes sense. ;D

Please do not PM, IM or Email me with support questions.  You will get better and faster responses in the support boards.  Thank you.

Please do not PM for support - anything else is usually OK.

You know if this did happen, certain people would be dramatic and call it censorship.

Steve

What about making a 'Solved Questions' (or other such name) child board under each of the support boards and moving solved threads to it then? Or would that just become too time consuming?

I figured that after I started typing but I thought I'd ask anyway. I'd volunteer to do it but that's mod level stuff so I guess it'll just have to stay the way it is. ;D
