How can I remove Smileys?

I had put several smiley folders into my forum, but have found they weren't wanted or used. So I tried removing them via the Admin links. However, after doing that and removing the files themselves, I see all the "deleted" smileys names showing up when creating a message.  >:(

How can I get rid of all these names? All I now want are just the default smileys.  :o

Removing the smilies will not go back into messages and remove the references to them. Nothing will do that, other than direct editing of the messages table in mysql

Could it be that you're seeing the deleted smileys above the edit window rather than those in posts as Kindred suggests?

If so, you need to change the default smiley set to one that still exists and they should change and show above posts.

Also if the BBCode used is the same for all then those in posts will change to the new default set.

Just a guess. ;)

Well, the best way to describe my problem was to attach a screen dump of the portion of a new message with the problem I am talking about. BTW, I am using SMF version 2.0.9.

Well, let me give it a try here since I botched but recovered my smiley packs.
There was advice that you should have the same smileys in all packs, or at least the minimum, the default smiley folder.  Try checking the default folder and see if you have any of the same smileys there.  Also, if you already haven't done so make sure you check the "Edit smileys" list and see if they are there.

Chasing is correct...  Rk's suggestion us good as well.

Goto your cpanel >your smf forum>delete the images of the smiley pack you dont want to use.

Waris... That won't fix anything...  It will actually make things worse.

I have finally deleted (removed?) the smileys I was having a problem with. I logged in as Admin and then entered the Admin menu. From there I selected "Smileys and Message Icons".  Then I selected "Smiley Sets" and from there I made sure I had removed the smiley sets I really didn't want getting myself down to the default set.

Then I selected "Edit Smileys" and then I selected "Modify" for the default set which there it listed all the smileys that were still there. After deleting all the listed smileys that didn't display an image, the problem was resolved.

To a point it was time consuming, but the problem was fixed.  ;)
