[solved] just cant install, looks like MySQL problem

I would really appreciate anyhelp.
I am trying to install a forum.
the problems seems to be with MySQL (I am running linux/cpanel).

I get either this error:
Cannot connect to the MySQL database server with the supplied data.

If you are not sure about what to type in, please contact your host.

or it says that I may need to install the database myself.
I tried to create a new mysql databse.
lets say its called smf, automatically the server create it as myusername_smf
I enter that in my username and it still loops and tells me to create a new database.
I also created a new user/pasword, but nothing.

could someone give me an example on what to create and where?

ok, solved it, but just amending the data in acse anyone has a similar problem in the future.
the problem other than having to create the databse manually and adding the suffic, was that I had created a new user for the databse. it wasnt allowing that connection, but only the original connection through the FTP account.
