I was cruising one minute and then the dreaded Sorry, SMF was unable to connect to the database. This may be caused by the server being busy. Please try again later.

When I check the database through Cpanel it seems OK. I look in the Cpanel error log it keeps reporting the following over and over...

I have gotten the connect to database error from time to time, but never this long (all night).  Could it be my host or files corrupt/missing in my directory?

Thanks for the help.

Those errors having nothing to do with your problem. Just a few error pages missing and some images. Who is your host. Did you have a backup of the database prior to this problem. This usually means something is up with the host unless you have been playing around with the files and database.

I did a check on the database with the cpanel utility and it checks out OK.  I do have a backup, but it's about a month old. Guess it will have to do if I can't figure this out.

Thanks

Thanks, I fixed the issue by running repair_settings.php

I had changed the database password in Cpanel, but for some reason it must need updating somewhere else as well or there is something I missed.

Kindred

if you change the database password in Cpanel, you need to tell your FORUM what the new password is (hence the use of repair_settings.php)
