Hello,

I am trying to upgrade a install of SMF from 1.1.5 to 2.0.9 with the Large Upgrade. What I did to get ready for this is the followings.

Created a new directory called community-upgrade
Copied 1.1.5 to community-upgrade
Created a new database as a copy of current called smfupgrade
Made all the changes in settings file to match the new folder path
Made all the changes in database to point to correct path of install.
Uploaded the large upgrade files to community-upgrade
Some files need to be replaced and when asked I confirmed the replace

Now I am ready to run the upgrade script. Since I am not on a live SMF I disabled login required for upgrade in the upgrade file.

When I get to step 14, it stops on "Rebuilding fulltext index...done". You can see all the steps below have been successful.

Reordering boards and categories...done
Updating indexes and data on "smileys"...done

Rebuilding fulltext index...done

Then after a long wait. I get this normal error message from sf upgrade.

!!Error!
Server has not responded for 30 seconds. It may be worth waiting a little longer or otherwise please click here to try this step again

I have found a few others talking about this error above, but it has been on a different step. I tried to use that input i found, to modify my upgrade files and still can't upgrade. I am now back to the original large upgrade files.

Your help will be greatly appreciated.

if you have a large index and a large forum, it may take a very long time...

I would recommend shutting OFF the search index in your smf admin, before upgrading - possibly truncating the search index table (not sure of the table name) and then rebuilding the searhc index after the upgrade

I meant to mention that it was a pretty small forum. Less than 200 threads. I will try what you mention and report back.

I decided not to take such a large jump of an upgrade.

I first upgraded to upgrade to 1.1.21. I had a few errors during that upgrade also. Mostly just log tables missing from database for some reason.

I then uploaded the large upgrade set of 2.0.10 and all went well. Just need to update some theme files now.

Thanks for all the input.

just so you know -- you can NOT run a theme for 1.1.x on 2.0.x

Upgrading to 1.1.21 first also solved my problem. The version I was running, 1.1 Beta 3, used just one search cache table, log_search. 1.1.21 uses the same four search cache tables that 2.0.10 uses. The upgrade script was failing while trying to upgrade the search cache. It was looking for these four tables, not finding them, and not handing the error.

and hence another reason never to use BETA versions on production sites...

Or maybe the lesson is, always upgrade to the latest minor version before upgrading to the next major version.  ;)
