Hello,

a few weeks ago we moved our smf (forum.lem.pl) to a new hosting service (OVH: theoretically more stable and efficient).  Initially the forum worked flawlessly, however after a couple of days it suddenly went down, displaying the following message:

smf_messages' is marked as crashed and last (automatic?) repair failed

This table could not have been fixed through phpmyadmin, hence we installed a backup forum in a new mysql database.  This forum worked for some time, however after a week the smf_messages table broke down again and the same error message was displayed.  This time we managed to repair the table from phpmyadmin.

This keeps me wondering:

  • The table smf_messages is quite large (over 50MB) — could this be the reason for our problem?
  • A frequent response in similar threads is ,,talk to your host".  We did talk to our host (OVH), however they say it was not their fault (?)
  • The very same forum hosted by a different firm worked flawlessly for about ten years...

Any hints?

That is something that you need to address with your host. It's a server issue, nothing we can do about that :(
If the table crashes, that's because (like in your hard drive or USB stick) the disk access was interrupted during execution.

50Mb in messages table is small, tiny, tiny :P

OVH, IIRC, offers dedicated servers and VPS. Which package are you on? Do you run a VPS/DS for a 50Mb "messages" table? :o
Se forem conduzir, não bebam. Se forem beber... CHAMEM-ME!!!! :D

Incorrect key file for table './thereali_smf/smf_members.MYI'; try to repair it
File: /home/thereali/public_html/Sources/Subs.php
Line: 544

Note: It appears that your database may require an upgrade. Your forum's files are currently at version SMF 2.0.6, while your database is at version 2.0.2. The above error might possibly go away if you execute the latest version of upgrade.php.

Most recently   Table './thereali_smf/smf_members' is marked as crashed and should be repaired

We are also getting those errors as well.
