One of my sites updated easily with the updater and one would not update no matter how I did the permissions. So since that site was rarely used I decided to trash it all, delete the mysql database and start a brand new fresh latest version install. But the problem is when I visit the URL, in the source code the javascript and css and what not are all starting with http://127.0.0.1 while the others all have http://properdomain.tld or https://properdomain.tld

Why would this be happening and how can I fix it? I tried wiping twice now and I put in the proper URL during setup yet it still keeps doing this. The page looks a mess without javascript and css.

Thanks. After a lot of messing around that file managed to make it work. Why would a default install of SMF with all the correct URL settings put into it http://127.0.0.1/smf/whatever when it should actually be http://domain.tld/whatever as was set during install? Something is really screwy with this updated version or something. I should not have to have some file that is intended to "fix" things on a completely fresh clean install.

Can you shed any light on this?

it has to do with the configuration of certain servers.

It ignored the entered data and uses the default setting

it has nothing to do with the update or the version.

As for why the update would not work -- that has to be due to a sevrer/host configuration sicne the update installed correctly on 99% of the systems

Just strange that I never encountered that problem before and this happened even on a clean and completely fresh install. Another interesting thing is I am not able to alter permissions with my FTP credentials from the file permissions area of the SMF controls. So now I am trying to figure out why it is unable to change the permissions.

I verified that the permissions are the same and the ownership as my other site. I even verified with filezilla client that it has the ability to alter file permissions, which it does. Yet when I try and use the web interface it is not changing the permissions. Something is very wrong. Is it a coincidence that a clean virgin install of SMF forum screws up and needs a special file to manually put the settings in a second time? I cannot alter permissions from the SMF file permissions area. chown and chmod are all perfect.

I cleared my cookies and tried a third time and for some reason it works now. I am not feeling as good about all this with strange things happening, but SMF is about the best forum I have used :/

The only fact I can come back to is this problem has not happened until this particular update, then a fresh install of this same latest version. The only common thing between everything is this new version.

Now I try and upload a theme by giving it the download link and the file name and it says "Although the package was downloaded to the server it appears to be empty. Please check the Packages directory, and the "temp" sub-directory are both writable."

There was no temp folder, so I created it and fixed the permissions and I am still unable to get it to receive the file. My god, one thing stacked on top of the next problem.

a theme can not be installed by the package manager, you install it via the themes and layout page.
