Random loss of smileys

Since I upgraded to SMF2.0.10 I've had some members of my forum asking what has happened to the smileys we use as they can't use them on a regular basis but I can as admin.  This occurs at random times.  Sometimes a member can use a smiley in one post but not in another post, sometimes the smiley set isn't available to them at all.  We've all wiped our browsing history, etc to see if this is the cause but to no avail.

Is there anyone out there that can make a suggestion on how to resolve this problem?

Thanks in advance.
PercyVere.

Thanks Kindred.

We have no mods installed.  We are using the SMF default smiley set and default theme (CURVE).  Forum is at forumtowers.com if you want to take a look at us.

That is a completely new problem to me. Are they by chance using the WYSIWYG editor?

Also, can you clarify what this means, please?

When they "can't use" the smiley what does that mean? They click the smiley but it does nothing?
When the smiley set isn't available, what does that mean? Smileys don't show? But do they show as "broken" images or don't show at all?

Can you create a test account (not admin) for us to check?

Hmm..

At the top of a typical page (reported as having occasional loss of smiley) there is this code:

<script src="http://www.forumtowers.com/forum/Themes/default/scripts/script.js,qfin20+theme.js,qfin20.pagespeed.jc.LlnkicrbTg.js"></script>
<script>eval(mod_pagespeed_e2phwt8ptL);</script>
<script>eval(mod_pagespeed_x2MqvM7aP7);</script>

And your smileys are being output like this:

<img src="http://www.forumtowers.com/forum/Smileys/default/wave.gif" alt=":waving" title="wave" class="smiley" pagespeed_url_hash="3692174526" onload="pagespeed.CriticalImages.checkImageForCriticality(this);"/>
Working now but checking for second posting.&nbsp; &nbsp;

I'm not familiar with "pagespeed.CriticalImages.checkImageForCriticality" but from what I've just read, it can affect whether the object is loaded.

Or not.

Would clearing the forum cache help?

Steve - Thanks.  Cache emptied but reports from members say they still can't use smileys unless they type in the code for them e.g. : smile for :).

Margarett - Why should they be using WYSIWYG as normal (not mod or admin status) members?

I've set up a test account for you to have a look at what I've been trying to explain.  Account name: test P/W: albion2015

I don't think he said they should be. I believe he asked if they were. And they really shouldn't be imo since it is so buggy. :)

Yes, I was wondering if they were using it.

And are they using Chrome? If so, it probably has to do with this:

I checked this issue in place and it is something that Chrome broke in recent versions and affects all of SMF 2.0.9 (it can be reproduced here)

* Set WYSIWYG as your default editor
* Open a new topic or reply
* Click a smiley. Nothing happens and an error is triggered in Chrome's console

Now repeat:
* Open a new topic or reply
* Click inside the post area.
* Click a smiley. It works and no error is triggered.
(that whole topic is relevant ;) )

So yeah, ask them to disable WYSIWYG and try again.
