I get a similar problem, except that I get this message:
"Critical Error! Cannot connect to the database server with the supplied data. If you are not sure about what to type in, please contact your host".

And this is during the installer, at 80 %

smf version that you are attempting to install? Who is your host   Did you actually use the correct database details (database name, port, db username, password?)

I'm trying to install 2.0.10.
My host is hxxp:one.com [nonactive], and everything else is ok, but I'm stuck on step 6 in the installer.

I'll be more careful next time I post a question :)

Sir Osis of Liver

If you got through 80% of the install, there's nothing wrong with your database credentials.  Sounds like a server glitch that disconnected the install from the database.  Does it happen at the same point every time?
