500 internal error on brand new forum

hello all,
this is the url of the forum ejuiceclones[dot]c o m
i was able to install the forum with no errors.
when i try to login using my admin account i get 500 internal error on the redirected page index.php?action=login2
note this is the first time am trying to loign to the fourm.

I would suggest uploading a fresh set of files as you seem to have some corruptions.

Thanks for the response. This is hosted on my vps server. so i ideally it would be me who need to check.
I ahve other websites running and have no issues with tat.Is [nofollow] there a way that i can troubleshoot.

I did deleted all the files and downloaded fresh pack and uploaded . now the domain goes to install.php and 500 internal error.

how is your server set up to handle chmod permissions?   Maybe 777 is too high?   That is usually the cause of a 500 error on my own systems

Which software/package/facility are are you using to upload the forum files?

As I see it you're getting corruptions at the target. Is your transfer mechanism set to do binary transfers?

Since you say this is the third time -- but you seem to continue to have the same problem, there are two options
1- you are not actually loading new files...   perhaps the chown settings are incorrect, which is preventing the overwrite of the corrupted files...
2- Your issue is indeed a chmod issue and loading new files with the same chmod will continue to give you an error.

Really, the best option when you get a 500 error and can't explain it - is to talk with your host.
Since you are running the server on your own, you SHOULD be seeing what is causing the 500 error (and BTW, a bad string will not usually cause an error like that, it will usually just cause a template error...)
Since you are seeing an error in the install language file, that suggests that you have not actually completed the installation (because, AFAIK, the install language files only called during installation)   Unless that is actually an OLD error that happened during install...

Shambles was not seeing a 500 error, though... he was seeing a template error -- which indicates that you have modified one of the template files incorrectly.

In short...   your issues seem to be completely due to SERVER SIDE problems and will probably not get resolved until you figure out what is going on with your server.

Since this is a brand new forum, I would recommend actually DELETING everything and re-running the installation with a completely clean/new set of files form our download site (if you are using an auto-installer from the host - don't)

@shambles , I use core ftp for transferring my files.
@Kindred, I downloaded the files from the SM's server and manually upload it to the server and do everything from scratch from copying files to installing. I dont use cpanel (i dont have it either). am running on cent os web panel and everythign i did regard this is manual.

This is all i did . Created the domain , set the directory,download the files from SM,upload to server using core ftp, bam.. 500 error.
*note: u wont see any error if you are using chrome, when using IE i do see 500 internal error. and checking the log i got the error i posted above.

You are getting a 500 error even before the installation? So, in other words - you load the files and try to run install.php and get the error?


That is almost certainly a misconfigured server (99% certainty)


unfortunately, I don't know how else we can help, except for the suggestions already made, regarding chmod or file which have somehow been corrupted from your upload - since this is a server side issue and not an issue with SMF.

I'm not the best person to give you hosting advices but I do have a localhost Linux box and I get error 500 if, eg, I set 777 permissions. I can see something like "world has execute permissions in file ....." in the logs.

So you first need to be able to identify the cause for error 500

It does seem like you're having corruption in the files... Maybe check if they're the same using the md5sum tool?
But an EOF can also occur due to poor system settings like for example fcgid settings making it bail out for invalid reasons (eg: extremely low time-out settings or process/memory constraints for the wrapper.); you really need to check the server's error_log if the md5 hashes match for the files.

At last I may be able to help someone!
Use Fileziller ftp and delete or remove the  .htaccess php file.
It is an error in this that may be causing the problems.
I had the same issue and thats all it was.

htaccess could be responsible for the 500 Error (along with a custom php.ini file somewhere in the folders), but it's highly unlikely it's responsible for the template errors.
However, as OP keeps ignoring relevant questions; it's all a guess anyway.

Htaccess is a dotfile. So it's hidden by default.
I'm not sure how you're looking at the file list, but in an FTP client you'll have to make it show hidden-/dot-files; and in SSH you need to use the "-a" flag on the ls command.

Finally i did manage to see whats goin on with the server....
i did run "tail -f /usr/local/apache/logs/error_log"
which i throwing out the exception. i i did manually tried uploading the file that its complaining.one [nofollow] file at a time and then that page started working
when i move around the pages i get the errors, so i manually upload the files again and try again.
I should agree with CoreISP i should use MD5 to compare the files and check whats goin on.
