How do I remove top search?

Do what I posted above.  Removing search is easy, just make the one change in the code.  Try the modified main_block.png, it will give you more vertical space for the news items.  Can make it larger, but at some point the header becomes too big and looks crappy.  It's not a css fix, doesn't appear to be any way to do that without restructuring the entire header, but it looks ok on my test forum and should do what you want.

Thanks for your help, Krash. I've made the two file modifications you've recommended and the search button is gone and the news section has more space. It looks like our issue is solved!!
