How to customize info center

I am using simple portal and prefer how it displays the calendar so want to turn off the calendar showing in the info center.  Is there a mod for this or can someone show me how to remove it.

admin -> calendar -> calendar settings there are 3 drop downs show holidays, show birthdays, show events. you do not want to show them on the board index.

Ok I will try that...  thinking that it would not then show up in the Simple Portal section..
