no pm notification email

New install and someone just sent me a pm and i never got an email to say i'd got one?
any ideas pls?

i am getting emails to say new members have joined and they are obviously getting emails for registration

Under My Messages -> Change settings, do you have 'Notify by email every time you receive a personal message:' set to receive emails for a pm?

funny how it was set to off though?

It's set that way be default I believe.
