Session issues

Hey,

Suddenly I started receiving session problems. Nobody can post or even log out.


While posting:

"Your session timed out while posting. Please try to re-submit your message. "

While attempting to reach the admin panel (or logging out):
Session verification failed. Please try logging out and back in again, and then try again.


I have tried renaming the cookie in settings.php (which logs me out).
After this I try to log in. First time I enter my password it's always "wrong". Second time it works.

I seem to use php 5.6 (but can switch between 4-5.6).

I have verified that the

session.hash_bits_per_character is set to 4

I have changed '~^[A-Za-z0-9]{16,32}$~' to '~^[A-Za-z0-9,-]{16,32}$~' in Load.php

as per http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=447598.0

Still no results.

I run SMF 1.1.21

I notice that the SMF database has grown by 50% in the last day. Error logs?

SMF 1.1.x will not run properly on php5.6

you MUST upgrade to 2.0.x

(and yes, the error log WILL take up database space like that if it is generating several errors per page load)

I "reverted" to 5.2 now, it still won't work. Once I get it running I'll upgrade to 2.0.x. I could of course try upgrading now, but I have no control anymore.

it is possible upgrading to 2.0 will solve the problem faster then trying to figure out why 1.1.* is having the issue.

Ideally I would've liked to wait until the weekend, but I might give it a shot. However, what are the implications of updating? Do all posts and settings get ported? What about mods like "treasury" and so on?

Mods will have to be reinstalled with the 2.0 compatible version of that mod
and you will have to find a 2.0 compatible theme... (1.1.x themes will NOT work on 2.0.x)

Ok, I made backups, and uploaded the large upgrade package (merged folders and overwrote files that were already there). I get the upgrade.php menu, I seem to be able to connect to the FTP there (if I don't use localhost), but I don't get any confirmation (just no error). When I enter my admin details (login) and press continue nothing happens. Same thing if I override security in the upgrade.php file.

I don't know if it's related to my prior problem or if I should ask in another thread.
