E-mail verification and forgot password links not working

Yes I have shecked error Log and this is what I found:

I have also Looked at the wiki.simplemachinesorg/smf/E-mails....... The answer you gave there reagarding the second message regarding fsockopen () is different in my case as you can see from my error log.
Kindly advise me.

Hi,
I have just receive email from my host. They examined the error report I sent them. This is their reply "To connect to your emails and send you would need to use port 26 or port 465. Please consult with the forum developer to determine if the email sending function needs to be set to a different port."

I use 2.0.2 build. This was installed in 2014 and upgraded once.

The forgot password and email verification are not working. My host wrote: do you know which script is sending the mails, and if this could be related? It is possible the mailer script is having trouble with the GET method when collecting data from the registration form, and the mail is never created?

My host said with regards to this that my forum was trying to send mail through port 25. Their port works on port 26. Can smf be set to work on other port other than 25?

Reason I created my own thread is that if the other one was resolved the thread would close without regard to my issue. Should I deleted one of them, rename mine, or start another one? There you will find the SMTP port in use, just change it to 26

There you will find the SMTP port in use, just change it to 26

I navigated to the mail queue in phpMyAdmin. See atttached screen shot. Unfortunately, I cannot find settings menu. Please help.

Problem persits. I sent this to my host and they sent this reply: "Can you p'lease clarify is the authentication enabled on the software you are using?
This needs to be done in order for you to access the server."

Make sure that the email account exists on the server.
This is not an SMF issue... You need to make sure that you can authenticate your account in your server outside of SMF. Because it's an SMTP account, you should be able to access it, eg, with Outlook (or any other mail client)

note the mail settings... the actual email address set for your webmaster setting in the server settings section (not the mail settings)

My host an I have worked out the correct SMTP programing. They sent the following email now:

Please turn on SMTP Authentication in your mail client, or login to the IMAP/POP3 server before sending your message.

Make sure that you have added SMTP authentication into your script and that the correct email account username with matching password is used."
Mail  type I am using is SMTP. Kindly tell me where to turn on the SMTP Authentication.

Everthing has been set up correctlynow so that all those your questions are answered already. I tested the new settings and got  the following error message:

by answering the questions you have been asked then we can go ahead and help make sure your setup is correct as right now it is apparent it is not correct.

your host is giving you advice that does not exactly apply to how SMF does things.

I don't think that you are reading my posts carefully, Oboiro500.

You have repeatedly listed the MAIL SETTINGS.  That is good. We did ask for those - and they appear to be set up correctly now.

However, 4 times now, I have asked what you have set for the WEBMASTER EMAIL ADDRESS from the SERVER SETTINGS page -- and you have yet to answer that.

As your host has already told you:


Make sure that you have added SMTP authentication into your script and that the correct email account username with matching password is used.

Additionally,
Please turn on SMTP Authentication in your mail client, or login to the IMAP/POP3 server before sending your message.

If the webmaster address is PROPERLY configured, there will be a mailbox on your mail server....   confirm that mailbox actually exists and is accessible through a mail client (not SMF... some other mail client, like your host's webmail client or an external one form your PC or mobile device...
if the webmaster email account is not properly set up on the mail SERVER, then it won't matter what settings you have to connect to the mail server -- they will always be rejected because the account you are trying to use is not set up (once again -on the mail server -- not in SMF)



edit- Your post came in as I was writing this.  You have now provided us with the webmaster email address (just to confirm, that IS the value set in the SMF server setting screen?)
NOW, confirm the rest of my post above, on the mail client/server side....

The webmaster address does not match the SMTP account - and therefore is going to generate an authorization error...

Make sure you retype the password on both password fields and save. It all indicates that you are just failing to authenticate to SMTP server...
