I'm having problems with documents with attachments

Firstly, if I create a new topic with a single jpg attachment it works.

Then, if I modify it and add 2 more jpg attachments in one go, the document fails to save properly, returning just a white screen. When I go to the board, the document appears in the list but will not open properly, hence I cannot delete it.

Also, if I try to create a document with 2 or more jpg attachments, it fails to save.

When I put several jpgs into a sigle zip file attachment, all is well.

I'm using version 2.0.10

The board in question is here http://www.epsguru.co.uk/MTSC/index.php?board=3

An example of a problem document is here http://www.epsguru.co.uk/MTSC/index.php?topic=110.0 and is the document titled "test"

Any suggestions, please?

Illori

can you check your server error_log file for any related errors and post them?

Illori

not the SMF error log, but the server error_log file.

The error log:

File sizes range from 300KB to 6Mb

The settings for attachments should impose no limits:
- Max attachment folder space = 0
- Max attachment size per post = 0
- Max size per attachment = 0
- Max number of attachments per post = 0

Mods installed: enhanced calendar v1.1

The thing is... In addition to the smf limits on attachment size, your SERVER configuration has limits to upload/file size.... And I am betting THAT is where the issue lies

A white screen indicates a fatal PHP error. Most likely it's either taking too long to upload, or it's running out of memory.

Where would I find those server limits?

How do I go about finding the php error? There is nothing in the server error logs

pintosal

Also, how do I delete the entries that appear on the board but which I can't open?

Kindred

check with your host on the server limits (or you could try running phpinfo)

the php error usually egenrates a FILE - usually names error.log, errorlog. error_log or some variation of that. (assuming your host is configured to capture errors)

change your moderation settings to use checkboxes for quick moderation (in your profile) - you can then delete threads from the index without opening them.

Thanks, I was able to delete the un-openable documents from the board.

PHP info shows max 100mb file upload limit, so that's not the cause as the file sizes are around 5mb.

Kindred

well, without the error.log form the server - there is very little else that we can help with -- since the actual cause is unclear. The error.log would assist in actually pointing out where the error is occurring.

If you do not have an error.log (or some variation of that) file, then please talk to our host. explain that you are getting a white-screen error and need the error logs to determine what is causing the issue.
