Hosting and php

Hi! I'm looking to create a forum using the SMF engine and have two questions:

First, can somebody recommend hosting? I've been strongly urged to avoid godaddy but am unsure how to choose from the myriad of options. If it makes a difference I am expecting a respectable amount of traffic right off the bat.

Second, how hard is this going to be for someone who doesn't know PHP? Aside from lack of PHP skills I haven't done any web programming in nearly a decade. Am I getting in over my head?

take a look at the hosts listed here http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?board=155.0 they are not oversold.

you dont need to know php to setup and run an SMF forum.
