Ideas/suggestions for Regional Community type site

I have a idea for a Regional type of Community Website.
It would span a somewhat large geographical area that contains several counties and townships.
The area is spread out and vastly underserved in many ways, so could turn out to be a very useful boom.

Business Directory & Blog
Calendar/Events
Classifieds
Forum
Map member/business colorization
News local & feeds
UsersPersonal Directory & Blog
(PSA)-Govt/Town/School Directory & Blog
Secured image/Pic Upload dir (sectioned & feeds per apps)
WebPage / Portal (Feeding from the various public apps)
site Adverts
site Chat
site Credits/links
site Gallery
site Games
AND some manner of payment system that corps can/would use.

(be nice to duplicate the above on a smaller lesser level for a kids/minor's ONLY area)
(but I really think that might be an assured legal headache)

That is something like...
a forum,
3 different Directory/Blog combos, 
substancial calendar use,
a gallery/image handler,
some manner of real news reporting, presentation, feed-sydication.
a mapping/location system,
+ numerous addons/mods for bells and whistles and amusement/entertainment

?akin to early Yahoo dir, but with more modern apps/needs?

So, that is my thoughts and now I'd like to hear yours.

As well as some suggestions on how to best impliment the various "apps", features, and tie it all together.

It might work, but you're up for a heck of a work load Some of these things are hard (if possible at all) to implement with SMF. To integrate all of that... uffff

Most of the ideas (if not all) you are thinking about can be done and there are various mods for most of what you are looking for. I agree with margarett in that even if everything you wanted to do could be done, it would take a lot of work.

Have you had a chance to go through the mods section here looking for mods that will do what you are looking for? Maybe even download a few of them and test them out to see if they will do what you are envisioning? Everything you will find there is free; and there are also some smf paid mods out there that I know offer some of what you want as well.

I was looking at some of your mods, reading the support threads, here and on your site.
Noticed you been updating some a bit.
Have actually downloaded the very ones you mention, along with articles.
Going to do as BR360 suggest, check them out, mix and match, etc.

Couple of questions if you don't mind.
You do plan on porting them for new SMF?

Any insight how well, or not, they'll function with split forum mod?
(Not sure I will do the split thing, but it is a thought)

I will for sure do something the site.

How much depends what I can put together.

Yes I will udpate them all for the new SMF 2.1
So far I already have ezportal and SMF Gallery ready for SMF 2.1
I mainly waiting for the modsite to start accepting SMF 2.1 mods then will start updating them all.

The mods should work fine with the split forum mod. Most of my mods I try to minimize edits so that most mods work with no issues at all.
