Hi
I was un-installing  a package when it timed out
and now when I try to enter my forum, it just shows a blank screen.
I have tried to use the previous index.php file, to no avail.

Is there anything else that I can try, to get back into my forum?

Shambles

Take a look at what files the package modifies when it installs, then check/reupload those from your backup.

Hi Shambles, thanks for your reply.

I had taken a backup last night and restored that after I got the blank screen
today, went and restored the index.php(tilde), still the blank screen.

Any other avenue I should be exploring?

Reading through your link, this seems scary to me.
What files must I delete before uploading this, if any?
Will I lose all the mods that have been installed before?

... restored the index.php(tilde)

Did you rename it to index.php (from index.php~) ?

zurgenaboy

Yes, I renamed index.php to indexold.php then renamed the backup to index.php
Same result, goes to site but display's a blank screen.

Shambles

Sounds like you're reasonably confident in what you're doing (which is good).

In your home folder (same folder as index.php) do you have a file called error_log (or similar). I believe that file might hold further details. Go check ;)

zurgenaboy

will go check now....thanks

Kindred

it may not be the index file that got choked by your timeout...  What mod were you attempting to install?   Did you restore the FULL backup (not just the index files)?

When I was un-installing the dream portal, it seized up.
Then when I tried to load the forum again, it just showed the blank screen
thats when I knew it was something to do with the index file.
I then did a database restore and that seemed ok
still blank screen
tried renaming the old index file, same result
thats when I asked for help.

I am using smf version 2.0.11

thank you to everyone who is trying to help.

I can attach the error log if that is safe?

Kindred

ummm....   you need to do a full FILE restore -- not just index.php
(or did you only back up your database? --   if so, please remember for the future, you should be backing up both files AND database)

Your best bet might be to do what Illori suggested

if your backup is not helping. http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/How_to_upload_a_fresh_set_of_files should.

I guess your right, I was hoping that it would not come to that....lol
Never did a full files backup before, I guess I am Not too old to learn then.

Thanks guys, will leave the full clean upgrade thing until the morning.

Will get back to close this after the reload.

zurgenaboy

Large upgrade package - clean install solved the problem.

Will now backup everything....lol

Thanks guys
