Size of my tmp directory

I am trying to clean out some of the old files in my forum since I am beginning to get close to my max allotted space. My tmp directory is by far the largest directory (tmp/    4,102.81 MB) and I would suspect much of it is of no use but I am not very familiar with how the forum actually works.

Would someone please advise me if I can delete some of these files? Or better yet can the entire directory be deleted and let it build the temp files back as needed by the forum software? I hope this makes sense.

SMF does not directly need or write to a folder by the name of tmp. if you are not sure what is in the folder you may be best to ask your host so they can assist you with this.
