Is it possible to assign an avatar to a board/boards along with the board name?

Illori

what do you mean? avatars are per user not per board.

my apologies for not being explicit about my request. I'll try again. I have a gallery of pictures of fishing reels. What I was hoping to be able to do was after naming a new board  was to add an image from the gallery right after the name. That does not work. I wanted the users see what the reel looked like along with the board title.

You do no need Mod for that

Just
Replace the Boards name with

Awesome Fishing Reel
<img border="0" alt="Awesome Fishing Reel" src="http://mysite.com/Themes/mytheme/images/theme/fishingreel.png" width="100%" align="left">

Just make a nice thin banner say 50-100 px max in height

you should not put HTML in the board description and this has been removed in SMF 2.1.

yes it is easy to do but it should not be done for security.

Can you please explain the security issue.

thanks

Illori

raw html is the issue. anyone that can modify the description can add html, that includes javascript. javascript can do bad things.

so stop using html completely and using other options will help future proof your forum.

I am sorry but I still did not understand your explanation.

If you are the only admin i.e you can only change the board name so how it is security risk from other users?
I am interested to learn as I just started a forum and customizing it and I really need to show the images to show what the board is about, If there is mod for that that I would rather use that..

And it looks quite catchy..

thanks

that is a way to do the same without putting html in the board description. also if you hit the max number of characters in the description it can cut off text and crash your forum. then you have to dig in the database to fix things up.

ZamaTata

Oh I know what you mean thanks it make sense however but I do not see any character limit for Boards name.. :-\

I would increase the limit to get a nice looking board banners ;)

And yes the only thing I found was that the same image will show in the BREADCRUMBa and Search results..
It is just quick fix to

add display:none for the img tag for the following in your theme css file.  (following classes are based on curve theme)

.navigate_section ul li.last a span img{display:none;}
.navigate_section ul li a span img{display:none}
.topic_details h5 strong a img{display:none;}
.topic_details.floatleft h5 a img{display:none}

no.   You should never use HTML in the board name or description.

As a matter of fact, the use of HTML has been removed in 2.1

instead, you should use the trick shown in the linked thread to use CSS.

hmmm OK if you have removed it from 2.1 then it make sense to not use it.  :(

I wish you could add an option for banner-logo when creating board names.. sort of like the situation with Forum logo i.e. you can use log or name..

many fewer people put images in their board description then they do want to put in a forum logo. i really doubt that would ever be part of SMF. in SMF 2.1 you can still put in an image in the description, you just can use bbc instead of html.

I have read all of the answers and still don't understand. I think kindred was close but I failed to mention that I am using Curve Multi-Color. Can someone appease my ignorance and give it another shot? I have many SMF forums but have never tried or needed this much of  a mod berfore

Steve

This is the specific response I was referring to: http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=539000.msg3830565#msg3830565

I use that and it works perfectly. The question is, is what this does the thing you're trying to do? Attached is an image of a board title with an image after it.

You just put the code posted at the end of your index.css file for each theme.
