A question about header image behavior in IE?

Hi.  I'm supposed to help my church obtain a message board.  I chose Simple Machines and downloaded and installed SMF 2.0.11 today.  During the installation process, I opted not to put text in the field for the forum name, so I didn't have to do any edits to not have it appear.  That worked out fine.  The only think I've done, so far, is one simple edit to remove the SMF logo, by removing this <img id="smflogo" src="' . $settings['images_url'] . '/smflogo.png" alt="Simple Machines Forum" title="Simple Machines Forum" /> from the default theme's index.template.php file and to attempt to put a banner in the header.  The banner is 1215px X 215px and it is a .PNG file, although not transparent.  (I'm aware it looks perfectly awful with the default theme's colors, but I plan to remedy that down the road.)

I added it by going to Configuration --> Current Theme (default) --> Theme Options and Preferences and in the first field, Logo Image URL, entering the URL for the image.  There is nothing in the Site Slogan field.  The forum width is set to 1240px, but it's been set to several options, none of which solve my issue.  My issue is simply this:  The banner looks absolutely correct in Firefox, Chrome, Safari, etc...  but, as one might expect, it renders poorly in IE.  The right half of it is cut off.  I use a Mac, so I have no access to IE, except for trying a few online rendering sites.  I'm attaching two screenshots.  Shot1 shows how it correctly renders in the other browsers.  Shot2 shows how it renders in IE.  None of the rendering sites offered full-sized screenshots, so Shot2 is smaller in scale than Shot1 (which I took, myself) but it's accurate to how the site renders in IE, regardless.  I've tried online rendering in IE 7 - IE 11.  This is pretty much how it appears in all of them.

My question is, since I've not really done any editing to SMF's files, other than what I mentioned, is it the image itself that's causing it to look so bad in IE?

I would appreciate any help and will try to figure out future issues myself, if I can, but I would so like to get past this.

Thank you so much,
Grammy

Actually - you need to have a forum name - much more than the header depends on that text...

Also, In order to properly help, we would need your site URL... not just screenshots

Thanks so much for replying.  Should I reinstall in order to have the forum name (since I left that field blank while installing) or is there an edit that can put it as it ought to be?

I'm so sorry for forgetting to include the test site link, which is http://yipcabbage.com/bucket/.  Please forgive the wretched color, I've been playing around with hue saturations while checking back with this site.   :)

Thanks, Illori.  I guess I just didn't want to keep having to see it; I was hoping to keep the forum header section pretty sparse.  But if I have to have it, I have to have it.   :)

Illori

it can be removed from the header if need be.

Grammy

Do you think this is what's causing my IE problem?

Illori

comparing your forum in ie11 and chrome here the header looks identical. maybe the sites you are using have issues.

Grammy

Oh, thanks for comparing for me!   :)

I tried Netrenderer, Browserstack and....  my goodness, every one I could find.  They all kept cutting off the right edge.  I felt  blind, groping around, because I knew it was just a simple image and I hadn't made any edits.

For the forum title...  must I re-upload the install files and reinstall to get that back, since so many files are affected by not having it?  Early on, it's no heartbreak if it crashes the database.

Illori

no you dont need to reuploading anything, just add it.

Grammy

Add it.....   from within the admin panel, you mean?  So, even though I omitted it from the installation, I can still affect a setting and add it?

(I'll go see, but I'll check back to see if that's wrong.)

*Edit:   Ah....  found it!  Still kicking the tires on this new forum, so I'm sorry I had to ask.  Thank you so much and I'll mark this solved.   :)
