It's obvious:
When someone answer to the last post, there is no need for quoting the last post and read it again.
It would be nice if a mod can remove the "Quote" button from the last post.

No need for permissions. If someone wants to quote the last post anyway, he can do this by the quotes that are under the post window. This should stay as is.

No it isn't.

Maybe there is, like a fragmented reply such as the one I have just given you where individual points are addressed :P

and what happens if two people are writing replies at the same time?   The first one posts....   when the second one posts his reply, it is no longer the "next message" in the chain to the one he was actually replying to...

also, the logic could get complicated...   so, IMO, this is not a particularly well thought or simple to design plan...

He can do this fragmented or not.

@Kindred
If two people are writing replies at the same time, than if someone have already posted before you, than you get a warning from the system. This happens already in SMF with or without mod.

Kindred

yes....   you get a warning...  HOWEVER.... the 2nd poster might want to now quote, since they are no longer the "next" poster for that original post.

Basically, you are overthinking things and trying to programmatically "fix" a problem that doesn't actually exist.
