How to change smileys from .gif to .png

I don't know if im posting in the correct place but all i wnna ask is how to change the smileys from .gif to .png
i tried to modify ManageSmileys.php i changed all .gif to .pn but the smileys link still ends with a .gif instead of .png
please help me and thank you

Hi KikiG4mer, can I ask why you want to change the file type as there might be another way to achieve what your trying to do?
