Help writing a MOD?

I have a few ideas I want to try and implement into my boards (specifically the PM features)

However, I am brand spanking new to SQL and fairly new to PHP, however I have all the rescourse and a "dummy" forum on its own database to screw around with.

What I am wondering is if anyone can tell me the files that list ANYTHING about the PM feature at all in the SMF install (1.1 RC1)?  I am going through each one anyway, but I would like a list so that I don't over look anything.

Also, this will be my first MOD attempt for SMF, so if there is anyone that is "in the know" about how to make a MOD package, or a link to a tut about it I would LOVE that also!  I am used to the text only "HACKS" that say find this and replace with this.. and having the end user do the work (I love this new "package" system, but don't know how to implement it!)

Thanks!  I found that thread a couple of days ago when I was looking for something else and couldn't find it again, the search was like 40 pages long, LOL.
