Install Error: "Notice: Only variables should be....

Hi,

I'm getting this Notice repeated on several lines:

Notice: Only variables should be assigned by reference in /home/pocono/public_html/apcpbb/Sources/Subs.php on line 232

Libe 232 is: $ret = mysql_query($db_string, $db_connection);

What does this mean and how do I fix it?
