phpbb to smf

trying to convert I recieved the following error

Sorry, the database connection information used in the specified installation of SMF cannot access the installation of phpBB2. This may either mean that the installation doesn't exist, or that the MySQL account used does not have permissions to access it.

I coopied the db user info from smf db to the phpbb2 and phpbb2 to the smf db the passwords check out and the user permissions check out can someone give me some ideas thank you

The SMF database and the phpBB database need to be the same. Also you'll need to leave the phpBB installation (or at least the configuration data) intact for SMF to convert it.

Make sure the SMF database user has access to the phpBB database and the phpBB database user has access to the SMF database. You can change this in your cPanel -> mySQL databases -> add user to..
