For RC2 there is a new theme its not the same as RC1.  If it's default theme changes just make a copy of it and edit the theme to your liking.  Even better become a charter member ;)
I have to ask:
Will all the RC1 themes be compatible with RC2 :-X >:(

You will need to make a few minor changes.  All of this will be stated when 1.1 RC2 Public comes out.

Mike, you're always welcome to get a Charter Membership to have access to early releases if you want them.

I most likely will get a Charter Memership once I decide to use SMF on my website, but not at the moment as I want to compare it to other solutions for my website.

Mike

i think the only software right now that can compare to SMF is vBulletin and that's not free software. Yabb is great now, but it's not even close to SMF's power. And phpBB is in the news every weak for security breaches... so SMF yeah!

I've been running some tests the last few days, and I've come to a similar conclusion. As stated before, I now want to the test the integration and interoperation with Joomla!. As RC2 will bring some changes and improvements (including an easier to be installed bridge), I wanna run the tests using RC2 (and not RC1).

From an integration point of view, I would  have to choose Joomlaboard, however that is not that powerful and has some security problems (for example, it is possible for users to post to locked forums using an exploit).

@Mike: me, you and many other people are looking forward for RC2 coz of better integration with Joomla, but it seems that we'll need some more patiente

I would love to have the public release yesterday! I would rather have a more secure, more stable version tomorrow though, or next week, or next month or however long it takes to make it right! I don't want to install a version that was rushed out only to find my site hacked by some kid who found this huge gaping hole that was missed because everyone was whining to get it out right now. Have some patience people and you will be happier in the long run.

Thanks

P.S. Is it ready yet? (just kidding)

I agree with you, however in my opinion it does make a difference where you install a test version that might contain bugs or security holes: on public accessible sites only thoroughly tested software should be used. But on an dedicated internal site that is used to test various things like integration and interoperation, I see no problem using an untested version (say from CVS). I'm doing this with other software, for example Joomla!, and was hoping to be able to do the same with SMF.

The problem with that is that people start using it on live sites and start asking for support on bugs that we know are there and so on.  That's why everything is kept to a closed circle.  Us team members have to test it first, then beta testers,  after it has been tested a few times it goes to Charter Members.  Any issues found there are fixed then it's when it goes off to the public wit very few bugs.

I would just say June 2006. ;D

Then everyone will be very happy when it's made public much sooner.

Thantos

Never underestimate Murphy's law :)  If we said June 2006 then something would happen so we couldn't release it till July 2007 :)

Uhh... this would mean SMF has longer development cicles than M$...  ;D

And I see and do understand the point brought up by JayBachatero.

Mike

Thantos

IMO Microsoft needs to have longer development cycles

Yep, they do - had to reboot my machine just a minute ago after my IE crashed and took the virus scanner to the nirvana as well...

Mike

Gargoyle

I use a a couple M$ beta programs and have been very happy with them.... I have had virtually no issues....

My desktop on the other hand is a different story... LOL!!

If RC2 is coming out, please please please please add a wysiwyg like thing when making or editing post, it will be so great, and will be another very good reason to use SMF instead of phpBB or the others that are ugly!

Grudge

Not going to happen with 1.1 I'm afraid, RC2 is feature frozen. I do believe I saw a mod for this though?
I'm only a half geek really...

Rather use ajax instead.

Owdy

Please no wysiwyg editors. Maybe a MOD, but no way default feature. Yak.

JayBachatero

It's easier for people to do this and

Or This in and sentence

and it really gets annoying after a while.

That's why it's not added.
