Cannot login to admin area or logout of user area

I did a new install and when I try to log in to the admin area I get to the password area ok but when I try to go past that I get:

An Error Has Occurred!
Session verification failed. Please try logging out and back in again, and then try again. 

When I try to log out I get the same thing.

What did I do wrong?

Are your theme files up to date? Remember significant theme changes have to be done from earlier versions of SMF 1.1 to the most recent one.

If you're sure your theme files are up-to-date, give this a try: truncate your `smf_sessions` table (where `smf_` is the prefix of your forum's tables) using PHPMyAdmin, delete your cookies and then try again. It should be fixed then.
