i cant find the files that have this text in them. i do see the index.template.php file for displaying this information, and i guess i can change the layout there for spacing, etc. but where do i change the actual text? i cant figure out where they are defined.

like for the following:

$txt['hello_member']

$txt['totalTimeLogged1']

or even $txt[152] for that matter.

thanks for any help!

Check in your languages folder /Themes/default/languages/index.{language}.php

thanks! that folder was hidden amongst all my themes.

i guess changing it in there would change it for all themes.

i wonder if changing/modifying it inside my local theme file that uses it would be a good idea if i just wanted it to be changed for my own theme. can those be reassigned?

The way it works is the default themes has ALL of the template and language files.  If a theme has custom template and language files it will use those.  If you need to edit a language string just add it to /{your_theme}/languages/{name}.{language}.php.  You must have ALL the language strings for your custom file.
