The mail client you use doesn't matter to SMF.
"Never imagine yourself not to be otherwise than what it might appear to others that what you were or might have been was not otherwise than what you had been would have appeared to them to be otherwise."

Dave91

I know but i need help; yahoo have rubbish support; could you help me configure it??

Dave
Thanks!!,

You cannot use the standard yahoo mail SMTP servers with SMF.

You need to ask you host / look in their FAQ for the web server SMTP address

Namecheap (domains)
Fastmail (e-mail)
Linode (VPS)

On my old phpbb board I used hxxp:yahoo.co.uk [nonactive] SMTP server.

smtp.mail.yahoo.co.uk

smtp.mail.yahoo.co.uk
If you could use it in phpBB, why not using it the same way in SMF ?
But as far as I know, Yahoo doesnt allow mail clients except the known ones like MS Outlook and Outlook Express

Indeed.

I don't believe yahoo allows scripts to send mail as many users have had problems with Yahoo SMTP

Well as I said aboce, if you can use in phpBB, you can use it the same way in SMF.
There is nothing extra. But I dont know if phpBB lies to Yahoo and shows itself as MS Outlook :P :P :P

Someone could try changing the correct part of the SMF mail file although I don't think it is related as yahoo doesn't block rare mail clients.

It could be you were using the local mail server but with a yahoo from address?

It may be a stupid question but I think they only allow you to use the smtp server if you pay a fee and subscribe. Are you paying for the service?
I'm running SMF 1.1.3 on http://www.chinathetimes.com/

Dave91

hell no lol; and the lad i no that is using it didnt subscribe either!! :)

Well, as I said, I used to use it and could do a complete mail shot of 500 users using Yahoo without issues, just had to slow down how quickly each email was sent so not to be detected as a spam shot.

They use the standard port 25, just use your normal yahoo username and password.

Bullseye, it wont work. Yahoo doesnt allow it. I affirmed once more now trying to send mail via Yahoo SMTP service to Gmail, Yahoo, My own domain, but nothing happens...
I tried with both my Yahoo ID and Yahoo Mail as SMTP user, I also changed the webmaster mail to my Yahoo account I used for SMTP...
You see, I tried all the possibilities, but no luck. Because Yahoo blocks us on the mail clients except the ones itself allow.
And it will alow only eudora, netscape, outlook, outlook express, incredimail, entourage.. Nothing more..
You are still not yet (hell :P ) convinced, take a look in its own source:

Thank you mate for your help!! :)

Only one other question now; how come invision boards are allowed???

Dave
Thanks!!,

Its not very hard for the coders to "lie" yahoo and show themselves as a mail client which they allow.
Have you ever used Opera? It has an option in the tools menu (quick pref.) like this:
"Identify as Opera"
"Identify as Mozilla"
"Identify as Internet Explorer"

Flashget does the same thing also to identify itself.
If you ask how it could be done to SMF, I dont really know.
