Settings.php suddenly cleared itself

I have no idea how this happened other than I suddenly got an error that a variable was undefined. I check out whats up and find that my Settings.php file is blank. Still there, just has a little 0 kb under it. This is a file that no one else has access to and thats why I am curious what could have happened.
