Installation on home machine

I would like to install SM on my Ubuntu linux machine so i can see if i will like it before installing it to our server. when i point my browser to the install.php file i just get a page with configuration settings.
I have installed Apache etc. but still get this problem. any help would be appreciated.

It's asking for FTP data? If so, have you CHMODed the files and folders listed at the bottom of the page to 777? If not, please do so.

If you mean anything else, could you make a screenshot of it?
