Checking board permissions

I'm writing a mod that needs to check a given board to see if the user has entry/view access (e.g. permission to enter the board).

I am assuming I need to use the allowedTo() function but I'm not sure what "permission" to use as the first argument to this function.

Anyone have any ideas, or should I be using some other method to check entry permission on a given board?
