Hello,
I have Windows server 2003 with php and MySQL installed.  They both work togeather.  When installing SMF it asks me for:

  • MySQL server name
  • MySQL username
  • MySQL password

Where can I find this information out.  Thanks.

vbgamer45

Servername: localhost
Username: root
Password: password is the one you entered in mysql setup if you do not remember just reconfigure mysql there should be start menu entry for it.

I get:
"Client does not support authentication protocol requested by server; consider upgrading MySQL client"
5.0 Doesn't start as a service so I am using v 4.1.  What should I do.  Would downgrading work?

Add to your mysql my.ini then restart mysql

#Use old password encryption
old_passwords

kdholdom

how do i add my.ini to mysql.  Please help me as detailed as you can.

Thanks

vbgamer45

easiest way were you installed MySQL

Example: c:\program files\my sql\
In that folder you could find my.in then just edit the file.

so i add

Quote#Use old password encryption
old_passwords

to the bottom of the my.ini document.  Then restart my computer?

vbgamer45

You could do that. But it would be better just to stop the service and then restart it.

example goto start then run type services.msc
Find my Mysql right click on the service name stop it. Then after it stops right click on it again and start it.

Do I add

#Use old password encryption
old_passwords

to anywhere in the my.ini file?  Do I have to change anything?  I added it to the end of the file coppied exactly as posted.  Restarted MySQL Service.  Ran the SMF installation and still got the message "Client does not support authentication protocol requested by server; consider upgrading MySQL client".  What am I doing wrong.

Thanks
