SSI question about echoing a poster's name...

I'm using ssi_recentPosts.  I'm trying to get it to output who the post is posted by.  Here is the line in question:

echo 'Posted by ' .$update['poster']. ' on ' . date("m-d-y, g:ia",$update['timestamp']).'<br>';

Where it says 'poster', it shows on my homepage as Array instead of the poster's name.  Any thoughts on what I need to make it produce the posters?
