First off, here is an absolutely perfect example: (Click)

Pretty much something the same as that or at least very similar. I'd imagine something like this wouldn't take too long or be too hard to make, you could grab the reply box and use that for the user to post their entries and their journal would be accessible through their profile. A new main journal page that used the forum's skin and is similar to that link would be awesome too =D

I have $15 sitting in my paypal account doing nothing, so why not. To whoever writes this, (if anybody does ;_;) it's yours ^_~

Is this like a blog mod?  If so...  I like this idea.  :)

I am willing to kick in $15.00 too.

RazorHeretic

excellent idea, would be nice to have it for 1.07 too

I'm willing to kick in another $10 to make it a total of $40.  Any takers on this?  :)

I'm guessing the way to make it work is that each member would have the option of creating their own forum that they're the only ones that can start threads in (controlled from profile?).  This forum would not appear in the regular forum list, instead a page would list the members that have these "blogs/journals".  Once a thread was started in one of these "personal" forums, the replies to the original post would be like comments on a blog.  As an added feature, it would be cool if you could limit the blog/journal capability to specific membergroups.

I have no idea if that's how it would work.  I have very limited knowledge of PHP and SMF (see my post count... ;) ), so I'm just guessing.  I'll be buying a book on PHP today, I bet someone else can get this figured out much faster than me.  :D

Nice to see some other people with the same interest =D

jerm

nice idea, but this would take awhile to code..

woden

There was a pretty good blog mod in yabbse, and in supermod.
Seems like it shouldn't be impossible.

Maybe if everyone keeps kickin a few $ in. ;D

JayBachatero

I'm with electrohome on this.  It would take a good amount of hours to do but it's possible to do.

Im already doing something similar to that. I make a board for blogs, then give a child board to whoever want's a blog, make them the Moderator, and limit starting topics to just the Moderator. Its not limited to certain groups, but I have to setup the child boards so they do have to have admin approval. None of this requires a modification.

Im looking for something a little less Frankensteinish.

Lalato

woden, I'm not sure I understand.  Are you saying your current solution is "Frankensteinish" or that the proposed mod is?

--sam

p.s.  I like your work-around.  :)

Hey,

Sorry for seeing this topic that late.

I'm already working on a feature-rich personal blog mode for SMF. Happy news!

User end: Blog pages, "read more" links, article categories, BBC codes, "last added" articles that are selectable from specific categories, article ratings, article comments etc...

Admin end: Pre-moderation, max categories per user, max articles per user, max characters per article, search in articles, censor articles, removal of links from articles, usergroups for approving articles, "report to moderator", etc...

It is likely to take more than two weeks before I release the first release candidate.

This blog system will only work for SMF 1.1 RC2 and later.

I was saying I am looking for a more of a total blog add on instead of  the workaround Im using. (My workaround is a make do frankenstiein ;D ) But the workaround has worked pretty good. Its a popular feature on my forum. Thats part of the problem, I have 25 child board/ blogs.

HarzeM, I am really looking forward to your mod, sounds great.

Lalato

woden, now I understand.  :)

HarzeM, I can't wait to see the mod.  I'll be happy to test it out since my forum hasn't even gotten off the ground yet.  :)

That sounds very promising HarzeM =D

If it's what I'm after, I'll definitely pay you for it =D

It needs some time. Not an easy task to complete, especially if you are working multi-task ;)

It will be ready when it is ready :P

Lalato

Understood...  but I'll keep asking every once in a while to check.  ;)
