Questions about what code means

I was looking at the modifcation that need to be done to make a mod work with a theme and I have a questions as to what this means?

   <file name="$sourcedir/BoardIndex.php">
      <operation>
         <search position="replace"><![CDATA[

Does this mean to change the boardindex.php that is found in the Source Files?

I am not good at this just trying to learn.

yeah thats what it means.. before you change anyhting in any file, make sure you create a backup of that file in case you mess something up (it happens to all of us, haha)...

anyway.. before that "replace".. there's probably "search" which tells you what to look for...
