We are happy to bring you the second (and final) Release ...

Some of the major changes made in this release (from RC1) are:
  • ...
  • The spellchecker should highlight things much more relaibly.
  • ...

;D

(I'm sorry for this totally off-topic message, but I had to.. Yeah... well I'll upgrade from beta 5 once I find time for it. Love it! :))

Meriadoc

RC2+ is basically the nighly CVS's. This board usually runs off of modified code - usually CVS builds, but sometimes just small changes (like the Wiki links) basically just helps the development side of things stay clear :)

Everything I know I learned from Calvin and Hobbes.
And patience is about the most useful thing you could ever have.  That and backups. : [Unknown]

Although an educated guess could mean end of this month/start of january, woo cant wait, oh wait are Simplemachines having a web chat and party like firefox had, that would be pretty cool, what about an IRC chat, ill shut up now  :-X

I think it would be fun to take out a full-page ad in the New York Times like Firefox did, but I'm sure that would be quite expensive...

I'm sure Unknown would be willing to pay  :P j/k I wonder how many visitors it'd get though..

Burpee

Doing that wouldn't exactly be the most targeted advertisement, now would it?
The people you are trying to reach out to are webmasters with online communities from all over the world... a full-page ad in the New York Times will be seen by millions of people, but only in the US... a very very small portion of those viewers are your target group... another, much smaller portion of those people will decide to switch to SMF from that...

Might be fun, but extremely pointless :P

Trekkie101

yeah its not really everyone that needs targeted just webmasters, i love that title (self proclaimed) lol.  :)

Good point...

What about Slashdot, Freshmeat or Newsforge? I know slashdot lets you submit your own articles, but does anyone know if it's easy to get something published there?

i'm a regular at slashdot and i've submitted 4 articles, none of them where published, but i beleive it may be time for another try.

[unknown], prepare the server to get hit with /.ers, i'm submitting an article :P

I'm afraid I'd much prefer to wait until 1.0's release....

incubusnb

ah, well... i wish i'd have read that before i submitted :-[

oh well, chances are my article will be rejected anyways...

for those curious, here is the direct quote of what i submitted:
QuoteFor Thousands of Web Developers like myself, the choices for Forum software have been few and far between, many charge you an Annual fee to use their software, other choices tend to be buggy and/or lack features that would be considered essential to a successful community site, or support forum.  Until now the best choice for open source forum software has been the largely touted phpBB
make way for SMF (Simple Machines Forum), a newly established forum system that seems to have the developer strengths(perfectionist code and commenting), and a growing mod community thats ready to challenge phpBB's throne.

sorry for jumping the gun though  :-X

we will not tolerate such carelessness...

hehe good little segment tho... atleast u didnt submit "crap" lol

Trekkie101

Well when something is submitted for the final version, can you post a link so we can comment saying good things, if slashdot even supports such a thing, dunno only used it once before today, also www.hotscripts.com have a listing of many scripts, would the developers or managers or something like to put something there, its a life saver for me (that site).
