As my heading indicates, I've tried to upgrade to 2.0RC1 from 1.1.8 and came up with a blank screen with no error messages.

Can this be rectified?

Kindred

you will have to give us some more information

URL?

were you running any custom themes?   How did you upgrade?

I was using the default theme at the time and uploaded the zip [smf_2-0-rc1_upgrade.zip] into my web server, overriding all files.

I've since reverted back to 1.1.8 until I can work out what went wrong ...

I assume that you mean you uploaded the CONTENTS of the zip file to your server, since uploading the zip file by itself will have no effect.

and did you run upgrade.php?

I uploaded the zip file the same way I've always upgraded a forum version [unzipping the file after I upload the file itself, yes]. The blank page shows up before and after I delete the upgrade.php file.

Kindred

so...   a blank page like that implies (to me) that something did not upload or extract correctly.

So, why don't you unzip the upgrade file on your local PC and use an FTP client to upload the contents?

Okay, I just did that and the result is still the same ...

But you are actually running the upgrade.php file on the host once the files are all correctly uploaded?

I ran it the same way I've always done when upgrading my forum.

I've since installed 2.0 into a new sub-domain and done a manual transfer of the database.

So that is a yes you ran the upgrade.php and it complete the whole process without any issues or errors. Then you hit the forum and it returned a blank?  Did you check your server logs for reason?  Could be something as simple as your index.php is set to 777 and your host doesn't allow it.

Does this mean it's no longer an issue?  If so please mark the thread as solved.
