Edits made to custom themes on install

OK, a scenario. And something to think about for next version, as core feature.

You install a fresh copy of SMF 2.0.4 for example, and then a couple of themes.  You then install a handful of mods, some of which make edits to your custom themes.

Then a couple of months down the line you decide to try out a couple of new themes.  You install them and find some of the things don't work as they did in your original themes, because those edits, and files the mods added are not in the new themes you installed. For the not coders, and to make this (dare I say it) as idiot proof as possible.

Is there a way of making the theme install process pick up the edits made from the package manager, so you don't have to un-install your mods and re-install them after adding a new theme? Because other than edit them manually, this seems like the only to achieve this goal.

Hence, why I also asked this. http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=501314.0

Personally I'd rather see the architecture expand to not require mod edits in the first place ;) Then the issue goes away rather than being worked around.

Well, yes I agree, but to be honest I'd be happy with whatever solution as long as it worked reliably. If there was one. ;)

Edit: Just noticed this thread along the same lines http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=399945.0

But doesn't hurt to have another take on it.  ;)

I'd say better to have just one (easier to track). ;)

Locking this one, if you have more comments, feel free to continue the discussion on the other topic. Thanks. :)
