Thank you for donating your Serbian translation for the good cause ;)

I've synchronized your Cyrillic version with the English language package. I converted the package to ISO-8859-5, so that people can make their choice as to whether they want an 8-bit or a multibyte character set version. Both versions can be downloaded from the download page (including a derived version for SMF 1.0.9). And last but not least, the language can now also be selected from the drop down menu on this site.

Why using ISO-8859-5 instead of UTF-8? What is the gain?
When we use UTF-8, we can easily mix all languages on forum.

MostTimeOnline

I agree, but then we should have two choices - UTF-8 and ISO xxxx...  both Latin and Cyrilic translations..

Single-byte character sets (like ISO-8859-5) do have an advantage over multi-byte character sets in that they use a bit less space and string manipulations can be done faster. As you mentioned, the big advantage of UTF-8 is of course its support for multiple languages, so if you'd need support for multiple languages, UTF-8 is the way to go.

As a sidenote: MySQL supports character sets like UTF-8 properly as of version 4.1. So with an older version than that, it's better to use non-UTF-8 character sets.

Exactly. If we use multilanguage (and we do) we need contents to be presented properly regardless which current language is used. I realy do not see the point to offer language definitions not in UTF-8. Who needs that? Multibyte is a must.

No matter what is primary language on the forum I always keep english option. SO, if main language is cyrillic, and UTF8 is nost usied. one who choses english will be able to see forum options, but contents of the messages would not be readable.

Serbian language is especial in this manner since we have both latin and cyrillic alphabets which are used equally. If UTF-8 i snot used, they cannot coexist together on the same forum.

Uzivaj u skijanju dok mozes

JovanT

MarkoWeb

An Error Has Occurred!
2: mkdir() [<a href='function.mkdir'>function.mkdir</a>]: No such file or directory
File: /.../.../SMF/Sources/Subs-Package.php

...bilo kakva pomoc je dobrodosla !

Hvala

@Beatrix

@gorand

@ati79
