ah, well... i wish i'd have read that before i submitted :-[

oh well, chances are my article will be rejected anyways...

for those curious, here is the direct quote of what i submitted:
QuoteFor Thousands of Web Developers like myself, the choices for Forum software have been few and far between, many charge you an Annual fee to use their software, other choices tend to be buggy and/or lack features that would be considered essential to a successful community site, or support forum.  Until now the best choice for open source forum software has been the largely touted phpBB
make way for SMF (Simple Machines Forum), a newly established forum system that seems to have the developer strengths(perfectionist code and commenting), and a growing mod community thats ready to challenge phpBB's throne.

sorry for jumping the gun though  :-X

Well at least your heart is in the right place :)

I'm not sure that's the best wording anyway. The article just sort of ends, and doesn't really go anywhere. There should at least be some information about some of the unique features in SMF, integration efforts, and maybe even a blurb about how it's the official board of the Toronto Raptors...

or...

http://www.nba.com/bulls/

and i would of had no problem =P

Oldiesmann

I don't really keep up with NBA, so I'd never even heard of the Raptors before the person running that board posted in the Showcase board about it...

I'm afraid I'd much prefer to wait until 1.0's release....

-[Unknown]

Why?

Oldiesmann

The Raptors must be popular somewhere - their board has only been up for about a month and a half, and already has 1477 members...

Why?

You wouldn't seriously issue a Press Release for a Beta? Would you ?

Burpee

Why not? I hardly consider this a beta anymore btw.

I think its more to do with the fact that the first full release is coming out and they just want people to see there best work, but i suppose there arent any critical bugs as we would have been asked to update if there were.

but there will still be small bug fixes and minor changes between RC2 and Final. Would you want to find this great recommendation at /. only to have to upgrade the software shortly after? That might not reflect well. Plus, it wouldn't sound well to say "Come to SMF, get our (almost) finished product!" ;)
of course, that isnt' to say we aren't happy to have people using the almost finished product, it's awesome! It's just not the thing to say in a "Press Release"

Theres a few sites im ready to post a message (about 5) advertising SMF, one is a webhost (Netrulon.com) , another is a RPG board (www.sb27fleet.tk) My Site ofcourse (www.t101.shyper.com/place), The E-Zine i started (www.ezine.shyper.com) and a boys football club site, hopefully someone will create a good post that i can just copy as im not that imaginative. Will Simplemachines do a press release message? And is there a list of bugs (Like where they are and what they do thats wrong) Non serious ones obviously that i could look at older copys and try them out. That would be fun.

Grudge

The only real bugs that have ever stood out (As far as I can remember) tend to be related to new features not working quite right (Like the BBC tag disabling stuff not working in the last release). There has not been a single serious bug in any of the SMF public releases, and I hope we continue like that
I'm only a half geek really...

Trekkie101

Ive used SMF sinse beta 4 and i must say i would have been happy just to stay with it, it was stable and done the job i needed done, but updated just to fix anything that needed fixed and i also hope that all the updates are as good as whats been happening, has there ever been a serious issue, i havent noticed one i must say.

[offtopic]I think this thread is done, RC2 has been out for awhile now. :P[/offtopic]

Trekkie101

But this has to be added to, to create a point of reference and an archive of information so that future users may see what the first release was like and see what others thought.  :)

not really. It won't be "finished" until SMF v1.0 is released. ;)

Philosophy aims at the logical clarification of thoughts. Philosophy is not a body of
doctrine but an activity. A philosophical work consists essentially of elucidations.
Philosophy does not result in 'philosophical propositions', but rather in the clarification of
propositions. Without philosophy thoughts are, as it were, cloudy and indistinct: its task is to make them clear and to give them sharp boundaries.
