K@ et al—sorry if this makes you squiffy.

I went into my cpanel and checked my SQL tables and found the following:
Quote from: cpanel table check

  • rollerco_smf2.rollerc3_boards
warning  : 2 clients are using or haven't closed the table properly
    status   : OK
  • rollerco_smf2.rollerc3_log_online
warning  : 2 clients are using or haven't closed the table properly
    status   : OK
  • rollerco_smf2.rollerc3_members
warning  : 2 clients are using or haven't closed the table properly
    status   : OK
  • rollerco_smf2.rollerc3_sessions
warning  : 2 clients are using or haven't closed the table properly
    status   : OK
  • rollerco_smf2.rollerc3_topics
warning  : 2 clients are using or haven't closed the table properly
    status   : OK
All the other tables were OK. I ran a repair, it repaired and I checked them again and they all listed OK.

But it does not seem to have changed the board errors.

The errors started at 5:15 pm yesterday. That was around the time I was following Illori's advice
Quote from: Illori on September 14, 2011, 07:51:53 PM
i bet [guessing] you are using english-utf8 on your forum for the language, your theme is missing the english-utf8 folder that should have the new.gif in it

http://mlcforum.theherosspouse.com/Themes/CurveMultiColor/images/english-utf8/new.gif

copy the image from
http://mlcforum.theherosspouse.com/Themes/CurveMultiColor/images/english/new.gif to a new folder named english-utf8

The new icon on new posts was not showing up. I did as he said and it solved the issue.
The errors are not consistent. I received 6 PM's. I could not read the first three due to the errors—but two were subjected about the errors. Of the other three, 2 were about the errors.
My people are saying they cannot see their PMs at all. (Is that right OldPilot—none of you can see any of them?)

The errors are not occuring simply with posts since the errors began. If I select to view the entire thread on a single page I will get the error somewhere. If I select to view a specific page and get the error, I may still msy still be able to view the posts that are on the page after it when I click to the next page—in that case there will likley be another error somewhere down the page.

Here are some of the issues as my moderators are describing them on our Moderator's board—this may give more detail.

I can't get into the private threads at all... nor my messages.  I can access the new comments but when I flick back a page data base error comes up...

I got into the subscribers board by going to the main page and clicking on the words subscriber board, the last post there was yesterday at 6:44 PM  EST.

I couldn't just respond to your notification... I had to go into home then to moderators board... I have done the same with private but can't go back a page, I get the data base error, nor can I get into my messages... at all

OldPilot just asked if I should create a testuser account to give out here for when we have issues? Let me know if that would be advisable. It would be useful, but I don't want to open it to spam by giving information for an account.

Illori

i would start off by suggesting you contact your host about these issues, they may be related to the problems with the server from yesterday and they may know best what is needed to fix it.

PenelopeQ

OH No!  :( :o

Okay, I'll do that. Christian is great and all, but you and K@ are amazing.

PenelopeQ

Ana Maria at MonteCarloHosting responded to my support ticket.

Quote from: Ana MariaYour problems are SMF related and probably with all the mods you have installed. The support people there should find what is causing your problems and not tell you that it is a server issue. Yes, the server had high load for a brief time because a site was used again to send spam, we rebooted it and it was running normal thereafter. A considerable number of customers on that server are using SMF and none of them has problems when there is a need to reboot the server. The only issue that can occur rarely is a crashed table, which is repaired and things are fine.

So she says it's not a hosting issue, and I apologize for what to me sounds a bit rude form her  >:(. You guys are helping and if you think the problem is the host then you need to say it.

Illori

the mysql issues are server issues, and when were the pm's etc last working? before or after the server had issues?

PenelopeQ

YES, that's what I was thinking too. She made a similar commnet a few weeks ago when I was having error issues.

I received 6 PMs through the night. The first three did not show due to the errors and the last three came through.

So should I keep up with the MonteCarlo support ticket?
I hardly had any issues when I was at Bluehost--yes I know, overseller. But they have been constant since the migration. I think much had to do with the same reason I had to migrate, but some just keep happening and I must say that BH was really great with support--because of the live chat.

Stars And Badges: This is new, I added it the day before yesterday and then yesterday added the icons so that it is now active. At first I thought the errors might be about this--and that could be the case. But since I added the english-utf8 folder to my theme and the errors began immediately following, that seems even more related.

When I did that I added the entire folder--all it had was the image gif for the new icon and an index file.

I also added the folder to the other themes, it was in core so I added it to curvedlife, curvemulticolor and default.

Illori

you dont need the index file in the folder.

also i would suggest you uninstall pretty urls it is known for causing more problems then fix.

PenelopeQ

Okay.

UGH: I uninstalled pretty once and got requests for it back.

Regarding removing the index--can I simply delete it, or do I need to do more? And...do you think that is related to the problem?

Illori

oldpilot

I think the problem with the pretty url's is that we have a lot of internal links within the forum and they would all need to be changed back to the # system that SMF uses.

But if that is causing our problems then get rid of it and we can work on re-linking everything

Illori

cant hurt to try it for a week or so and see what the results are.

PenelopeQ

I've emailed Ana Maria again...just waiting on that.

Some more discoveries. I cannot access my memberlist but I can search members.

The errors seem to be limited to posts, profiles, PMs etc. that are only by specific posters. I don't know who the all are—I just discovered one when I tried to view that person's blocked post in my database. Then I tried to view her profile and list her posts and was errored on both attempts. I then tried to view a thread she started and was blocked on the first post—hers. But I was able to view page 2 of that thread.

This was the same for the other posters whose PMs I was unable to read.

OP, Regarding Pretty urls: I think it may be better without in the long run. The names are associated with the board, then we move the threads as we archive them, but the names which we added within the posts refer tot he original board. What would be nice if there were a mod that could automatically link a person's story threads and put it at the bottom/top of old/new threads.

Edit:
I got a response from Ana Maria. It makes me thankful that you guys are helpful even when you don't know the answers.
Quote from: Ana MariaI would like to ask you, if it is a problem with the server as they suggest, why are all other customers with SMF on that server NOT having any problem at all? And believe me there are some fairly large forums on. You are having problems with your forum, probably because of one or more of the mods you installed. Our servers are set up to run SMF properly.

So I can't answer why my forum is the only one with a problem. But I do know my forum is having problems.

As for the mods...maybe the new mod is an issue. But what do you think? Should I uninstall Stars & Badges and see if it makes a difference?
Why are only posts from certain users erroring?
Actually most of the board is fine.

oldpilot

I don't know what you DID but the board is now working  at least it seems that way to me.

PenelopeQ

Yes, it is, I uninstalled the new Stars & Badges mod.

So Illori, I added that mod two days atgo, but since I did not have any icons associated with post groups it really had nothing to do until yesterday when I got the icons added? Any ideas as to why?

I'll be researching it--after my trip to the fair though.

I'm wondering if it might have anything to do with how many groups someone was in--maybe those with a lot errored out.

So for now those topic icons are gone for groups after the primary group.  :( But I'll see what sort of things I can do to fix it--the mod thread had a lot of issues and fixes--honestly it was quite confusing because there were so many.

And Illori, last month Christian said not to put mods on a live forum without testing first. I don't know how to do that? Can you explain--I asked Christian, but he didn't answer that question.

Illori

you can setup a test forum and play with mods there. i dont know anything about that mod to tell you what the issues are.

Like add a basically empty forum with another subdomain? Then add the same formatting and mods--but just no posts and users, or a few test users?

I can do that.

I'm marking this solved since it is a mod issue and I was at least able to uninstall and stop the errors.
