I searched but I may have missed it.. But I was wondering being NEW to SMF 2.0 RC3 and I was just trying to figure out how to get access to certain boards.. I don't think it's in permissions unless I overlooked it.   I think it's called unassigned??? Anyhow, wanting to put New users in a group of just News and General.. After they are interested in seeing more, Assign them to Elite Member. Is this possible and did I make any sense?

Thanks for reading...

Alright. Well you can do that in the following way.

Make a group called Elite Members or whatever and make it so they can see all the boards you want them to see. (This is an option while creating the group called visible boards.) Then eliminate all but one post count group and make it so that 0 posts are required, (like newbie) and make the only visible boards the news one that you want them to see.

Membergroups

There are other ways to do it aswell if you wanted other options.

Please do not PM me for support.

Hi Martinfin,

Its easy, you can change the name of any group to what ever you like, just go to Admin/groups and select the one you wish to change.
There is also an option there to "assign" membership or make it a post based membership (1 to what ever)

If anything is not clear feel free to post back here.

Bob

You would do this through the post count groups. Have the 0 post group only see the News and General areas, and call that group Newbie - then decide your appropriate post limit to have more access, and make a new postcount group for that, or rename one of the existing ones, and give that group all access you wish :)

To easily control the board access, you would go to modify a board through admin control panel, and there you will find checkboxes for each membergroup, so you can define which groups have access to that board - or the otherway around you can also go modify any of the groups, and you will find checkboxes for each board, so you can speficy the boards that group can access. :)
