I was looking for something sorta like this, but I was going to call it vendors, but this will work. Is there a way to make the box that displays the affliates larger and remove the scroll? Not that its not nice, but doesn't really fit what I'm trying to accomplish.

I think its cool, i reckon it should tell them a step by step process when they add there site, to add the affiliate code to there own site first..
And there positions relate to clicked links..
Anyy affiliates that dont click thru to ur forum should be warned of being removed form list.. if they have 0 click throughs its obvious they didnt add the code to there own site..

I add my site in Addlink tab. What does it mean? You received the information and then it will be available?

same if i where to add a link on your site then you would get an email

After you have one Affiliate the box in bottom is shown, okay. But until now it isn't... and so it does not call attention...

Yes, I use a mod to not show info center to guest...
then tha is why cos the affiliates is in the info center funtion if you post up you boardindex.template.php i can move it for you if you want

do you have another Afffiliate mod installed?
i did but uninstalled it before attempting to install this one
I still have both installed, did the modsettings when uninstalling failed, or manual edits?
I uninstalled completely first but then had the ModSettings fail on installing this. Not sure what wdm2005 did to the file but it worked.

Hi, great Mod. I have a problem, the code for TP doesn't work. I'm using TP 0.9.8

Why does SMF require so little resourses, i used to use worpress and it killed resourses like crazy.... Espacially the Mods for it, they really really killed it and got me suspended on my host (I lost my increasingly succesful site because of it :'( )

I have one more problem i just want to know if it might have anything to do with the php code you gave me conflicting with some settings that i had set previously. I use simpleportal and i use the top posters block. I have set certain boards to not increase psot count but it seemes to count those ones anyways... Do u think its the code u just gave me or is it a flaw in simpleportal?

Y dont you take affilates to another level, Make it better. Like an approval system for affiliates integrated with smf instead of just e-mail. So when people submit thier site you can check and press accept/decline. ETC

Every part of the mod works fine, no errors. I just would like to add it to MKPortal.
The Affiliates block displays just nice on the forum index, and when you click on affiliates.
To answer your question, yes i have the same code added to both boxes.
hmm im not yo shore then with out setting up mk portal wich i cant at the moment dont have ftp acess soon as ftp comes back on ill set up another test site for mk portal

I don't know if I missed it, since I'm half asleep. When adding an affiliate link, if you don't put in a banner url, it comes back with an error "An Error Has Occurred!
You need to enter a message."
The questions I have are: can I disable it being required to have a banner url?? if not, where can I change the text of the error message to remind the user to put in the url to a banner? Also, does the url have to be to a banner specifically (if so, I have no clue how to do that) or a url that shows up as a banner on MY site?

Another question, when I add my image and create a link for someone to grab and put on their site back to my site - in the code, there is an "alt" area for text that is blank. Where or how do I put the text into that "alt"?? We have a large number of visually impaired/blind users that use screen readers. The screen readers "read" the "alt" tag for the icons and images in a website.

Whenever you get the email with the details from whoever. You add the details manually.

make sure the email youre expecting to, is the one you use to administer your forum.
I tested it and it works. I sent myself an email with blah,blah blah with a a fake email and i recieved it.
the PM sure is a good idea.

Just wondering, if an affiliate that wants to add themselves to your affiliates list does not have a banner, is there a way to not have the banner required? Maybe a check box to say "banner required" or "do not require banner" in the admin?
As of right now, (at least from what I've seen) the banner is required and most of my affiliates don't have banners. So, what to do??

OK, I got some sleep and installed the newest version of SMF Affiliates.
A couple of suggestions:
1 - I don't see the marquee any more :( miss that! Would like to see it with 2 check boxes, 1st would marquee from right to left, the other would scroll from bottom to top (like in a movie). You can choose which one you'd like it to do. And if neither is checked, it just sits there (like it does now). Also, is it possible to add a field that shows the speed of the scroll/marquee? That way the user could set the speed of it?
2 - being able to name the affiliates block on the index. Used to be that you could rename it from "affiliates" to whatever you wanted without having to mod code.
3 - in the old version, in the admin panel, you had 2 areas for putting in links. 1st was for the affiliates page, the other was for the affiliates block. This would be nice to have back. This way, I could put my site sponsors in the block on the index page and our affiliates on the affiliates page.
Geez I hope that makes sense. :)

ok. sounds good. Of course, the problem I have is that both versions each have their own positive extras. Not very nice!!! :)
Now, another question - I copied the code you placed a bit back to put the Affiliates into a block in a Portal. It does them as a marquee - right to left - how can I change it to scroll - bottom to top - and still have the on mouse over stop?? This will hopefully be my last question to bug you with. He He.

Number of Affiliates? then put the number of affilites you want
then click affiliates and add your affiliates
im guiessing you where putting you affiliates in Your banners that for your affiliates banners for other people to use
alos when some one request affiliation all there deatil get sent to the webmasters email addresse
I do not have a spot for that though - to put the number and I do not get them at the email that is for my webmaster , I checked all that and I have not received one .

ah i see your using v1 you should use v2 realy v2 is a lot easyer to add affiliates
as far as the email is concerned in smf admin have you put in your email addresse or a fake one

Now, the question is - is there a way to change the speed of the scroll? I'm a speed reader and it goes too fast for me (by a little). I'm SURE that the other users have a problem reading it. Now, I know that the scroll stops on mouseover, but it's actually a bit distracting to see the words and links go whipping by. :D

I have no current affiliates. Before I allow affiliates to start entering, I wanted to make sure that the bugs were worked out.
However, I just attempted to add an affiliate and, while the screen said that the submission was a success, pending approval, I can not find the submission anywhere for me to actually approve it!
I then manually added one into the admin interface and checked off "Approve", but again, the affiliate banner/link does not actually appear anywhere on the affiliates page. :(
(edit- ok... I had the height and width set to "0", thinking that this means no max. It appears that I was incorrect... seeting it to 50/100 allows the banner that I manually enterer to be displayed, but it is forced to 100x50. Is there any way to have it just use whatever banner was included, up to a maximum?
Also, the "Configuration" and "Permissions" tab in the mod admin bring up the exact same screen (which is the config screen)

nope... no email was sent, and the submission never appeared in the admin tool.
What I mean is: If I enter a value into the height and width fields, it foreces the banner to that height and width.
So, I se this to 200 wide by 100 hight
However, The banner I added is 80x30.
The system now forces the image to be 200x100, hus deforming the image.
Most implementations require a MAXIMUM size, but allow the image to be used, "as is", if the image is smaller than the maximum.
Also, most implementations only resize one value (whichever needs to be resized to pull it under the max) in order to keep the original ratio of height to width.
Now that I have added on affiliate, I am still getting errors on affiliatesid2 and affiliatesid3.
From your statements, I assume that I will cotninue to receive errors until I have at least 3 affiliates? what happens when I get more than 3?
if youv filled in all the info for affiliates and configard it properly there should be no error
in admin see where it says

ie if you have three affiliates you put 3 and just increas it each time you add affiliates
if you have 3 affiliates and you put say 6 in the box you will get error cos there not defined untill you add them
hmmmm.... so the system doesn't do a count of the approved list and then automatically determine how many? I have to manually set the number each time I approve a new one?
Side note: $txt['cannot_affiliate_view'] needs to be added to the text strings. (Guests can not add affiliates)
Recommendations for updates:
1- have the system automatically determine the number of affiliates based on the number entered where approved=true
2- Have the height and/or width values be set for the MAX sizes, not the forced sizes.
3- Add code to use the SMF standard - If field is set to "0" it means "no limit"
4- Add code to determine if value is set rather than assuming value is set (currently, if value=0, it pops an error in the log)
5- somehow, $context[$context['admin_menu_name']]['tab_data']
(admin_menu_name) is not being set... It looks like that is related to the empty permissions tab

Hmm.. I was playing on sleepy's arcade and noticed the affiliates code so I came here. Tried it on my forum but can't seem to get it working (could with time but then decided that since it also adds a button and didn't know that at first that I won't use it). I was interested in how configurable your code is but just wanted simply the affiliate banners on the front page and not a button to a special page or anything.. is there anything in the works for a "lite" version ?

Nope, no portal.
But she is using smf 1.1.8 with the DilberMC theme and has yshout mod. I got the affiliates mod to install perfectly but for some reason, the yshout mod minimizes and can't open it. There seems to be some form of conflict there somewhere. Any ideas?
Yeah Sandman is my coder (I only maintain my forums and Sandman does all the modifications).

Wow your great man. It is working just as I need it. One thing, that I'm not sure is a resault of this or not. Look at the affilitate area next to the footer. The footer is now uncentered below it.. for all I know it might have been like this before hand lol..

SMF version? If you are using a 1.1.x version with a custom theme, you will have to manually add the affiliates button in the topnav.,,, and possibly manually add the other parts.
Your vers.2 is giving me errors on my 1.1.8 which has several other mods. It works great on my test 1.1.8, maybe a mod conflict?

Wanted to post the errors so they're easier to read, I have a default core vers. 1.1.8, there is more info in the post above this one. I think the structure of Sources /Modsettings.php or BoardIndex template is screwed up and I'm missing some code somewhere. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for this great mod, can you swing by my site and take a look at the main page? small problem, I have some extra text showing up next to the affiliates banners. I don't know what adjustments to make in regards to banner size and width, seems those settings show up as alt text.
what did you put in the banners url feild?
The url field just has the ad code, that stray text is coming from the configure page with width and ht. info, I can take a screen shot for you.
the add code? it should just be somthing like

wellfor the widht and height it simple if you want you images height and width 88x31 then you would put the 88 in height and 33 in width and save
The banner url is way longer than what you posted, I think this guy has his pics posted on another site so it's like double the length of a regular code. I'll get you the screen shots too because the text from the affilliates page description box is showing.
here are the screenshots, I add text in these fields and they show up as alt text next to the banners

When I enter the whole code like I have it set up now it doesn't take you to the site and the text spills over somehow. If I cut the length of the code down I get the banner to show without the text spill over and when you click it it doesn't take you to the site.

Ok got it now 8) You have to put the correct website url in the website url box and instead of putting the whole banner code in the banner url field, you just put the http/banner.gif part in the banner url field box.

The problem is that I don't have any delete button. It has something to do with my Theme I think

add these images to your theme and you will see them tyhey go in your theme images
nothing will show if theres no affiliates
i onestly dont know how your getting confused with this it easy if you was usaing the last version i would understand but i dont undersdtand what is so hard
it couldent be more simple to manage / add addiliates

sya you banner is uploaded on your server in a file name aff
you will link to it like
yoursite.com/aff/banner.gif
you own banners go in
you banners in admin
just pop you rbanner url in the box and save

Now it works with the exception of the SP Custom block where the banner just flashes one time for a milli second.

Small problem with the affiliates tab. I have affiliates version 2 on a default core vers. 1.1.8 and when I click on the affiliates tab it goes to the affiliates page but the "home" button lights up. How do I get the affiliates tab to light up? I also don't know how to enable the marquee.

looks like you pasted something into the english file incorrectly... get rid of the n's around that
I really didn't see how that would work, seeing as I didn't paste anything, I just installed the mod, but I tried it anyway.

that is correct the way it is you will get errors like that cos it not configard proply
Undefined index: naffiliatessn mean you havent set number of affiliates you want propaly so if you have 2 affiliates you put 2 in the box

It seems to have brought on a few more errors, but I'm thinking that they might iron out when I get my affiliates on board.

yeah thats the proplem with the 118 version if its not configard right or at all you get errors i dont use 118 i use smf 2 version wich is different but if fi rember correctly if you add an affiliate the error should go?

Ok I see where to set it. But when I set the numbers like I have setup for the SA Affiliates in the admin panel 3 for scroll without mouse over and 1 for scroll with mose over. I set that for this and 3 is super fast and 1 is the speed of like 3 in the admin panel. How can this be adjusted, also how can I change it to scroll in the other direction?

If I set it to 10 that would be so fast you couldn't read it my 2 is about your 10 speed (for the SP). I set onmouseover = 0 and that still scrolls at about the mouse over speed I want. But with my notmouseover speed set to 1 it still is half as fast as I want.
And I don't see where to change this

One quick question. When you go to others affiliates and it says copy the "code" into your site and it shows the code, where exactly do you put that whole code? I have been just adding it manually all the fields for like Title, Url of banner, Url of link and description.

No I copied over my main sites files and database to the test one. And that is happening thats why I am wondering if it is looking for the smilies images somewhere and it doesn't see it due to the transfer.

Sorry if this has already been addressed, but how would I go about displaying all of my affiliate banners in a random order (like on each new page or page refresh). I have used ssi_random_affiliate(); but only get a single banner to show. I have tried several different ways to get it to show a set number of banners like 10 or 12. It's probably a simple answer, but it escapes me. :P

It isn't changing anything all of it is showing as the same ..... they aren't scrolling in a random order ..... maybe I am stupid and thats not what it was supposed to do?

you dont need to touch ssi_examples.php all you need to do is add the aboe code to ssi.php then where you want it to be diplayed you just put

so if you wanted it in a portal block you add ssi_random_affiliate(10); to a php block

It already is in there ... and I added that to the SP block and it made it random just it kept none stop sending affiliates in random order never restarted just steady flow of affiliates.

It seemed to work. I added the same global string to the outside of the function for the lines that are being called below the function closing. That is where the errors were coming from because there was no global string for them.
Let me know if I did something wrong but now since I edited it, it is reading the scroll direct and image size from the affiliates settings in the admin section and is not pushing anymore errors.

Which version am I supposed to use if I have 1.1.9 installed? I tried both. The 2.0 doesn't let me apply it when I click apply, nothing happens it just reloads the page and shows the apply link still there. The other one doesn't give me an option to apply it just says list files and delete.

So SA wrote the code and SMF got it from him. I guess I was wrong but Im glad it is cleared up. Now back to reinstalling my whole damn site from scratch.

Installing my SA affiliate mod was clean with no errors however above the forums banner was this:

2- once the mod is installed and configured, there should be a link on the affiliates page for people to submit their own sites into your list for approval.

However, I think you are missing the point of this mod.
This mod will not automatically affiliate you with other sites... what it does is make the affiliation available for others to add their own banners to your site's list (usually in return for placing your banner on their site)

Please try READING the thread before posting a question?
This has been asked at least 5 times.
It means that your database edits did not get made. Probably because you had an old version installed and never removed the database tables. You will need to extract the DB edits (see the manual install instructions) and rerun them after making sure that there are no existing awards tables in the db.

The reason is Most mods only auto-install into english
OK it is English, And it is not showing up after installed, Like it passes all the test and goes to redirect and when I hit that it goes back to main Admin. It seems like it was nevered installed at all but it says it is installed.

FRIENDS, i have installed SA affiliate, after configured, when i click the banner it says "Affiliates is disabled by Admin" but i have already enabled it.... pls help me..
Hi there,
I just installed SA Affiliates for SMF 1.1.10 and I got it working at it's HALF.
What doesn't work is the permissions tab, when I click it, I get an instant blank page.
I did not edit the file and the installer said everything was completed 100 % succesfully.
I use the PSBlack theme.
There is no error message at all, only a blank page when I click on permissions on the "Admin" page.
How to fix this?
Also, where can I make the title fit the titlebar?

When I look at line 755, I don't really know how to fix that as the 1.1.10 instructions don't want to parse.
Thus I am now uploading the default BoardIndex.template.php file and the BoardIndex.template.php file from the theme I use (PsBlack).
The PsBlack file I have added as attachment with the name "BoardIndex.template(custom).php". That is the one you should take a look at ;)

1. you should add the options for adding descriptions under Affiliate info
2. you have a spelling mistake in the primissions
3. under the primissions for Regular members under the affiliate tab at the bottom there is like 5-6 blank primissions with no descriptions but like 3 of them are checked... wtf?
wow... talking about spelling mistakes....
And, if there are blank items in the PERmissions section, then not all of the text strings were installed on your system. I have the mod installed with no missing text.

1. is that he should add the description under affiliates, which i was thinking of doing my self anyways.

just as a test i made a test affiliate up and added my own site but the scroller down the bottom does not show even when i have it enabled,just wondering what i need to do ?

Great mod, installed fine works very well. I would like though to stop the scroll on board index as i only have one banner and i dont really want it scrolling across the page. Any help with that would be great. The only options I see for scrolling are in the screen shot.

This system is full of errors........I've had to go threw the entire code and fix several problems (LOTS of issues with your spelling and the functions.........) You really need to go threw and debug this as i did .__.

Yes, sorry...I am an Amazon affiliate now, and I want to add my amazon affiliate ID to any amazon links that are posted on my forum. Not sure if you fixed it or not since but with my older version on line but I have been getting a bunch of XHTML validator (http://validator.w3.org/) errors with the scrolling banners.

Based on some observations from personal use, I've noticed that the ranking link does not get shown to the person applying to affiliate (you know, the link with the ID in it). Is there a way to have that link shown to them after submitting their request? Has this been asked before?

There is an error on the page where the own banners displayed. This page and the page in the ACP show only 10 Banners but i have make 16 in.

So, you know the setting "Notify the admin..."? Is there a way to change who this is sent to? Our original admin (id1) from our old Proboards forum long abandoned us and I took over.
I could just use the password that the converter set for him, however I'd rather not even go into his profile and make him look active again (if you know some of the stuff he did, you'd know why).

One question...
There is a problem in the page where u can approve new sites.. It's a really small problem but it's bugging me lol... I usually keep sites unapproved because they don't meet the requirements. I leave them there because I want to talk to the people so they can fix something in their website so it can be affiliated with mine... but! sometimes I have more than 10 websites sitting there and when somebody send another one (11) I can't see that one cuz the page only displays 10 websites per page and when there are 11 there is no link to go to the second page, so I have to erase one of them or I have to go to the admin center to approve it or not and it bugs me. Any solution?

Well... I upgraded the mod and now i have the second page (THANKS!) but... the affiliate's banners are all different size... I know that it's how they sent it... but, before they resized themself... but now they just don't do it anymore... :/.

My situation is weird...
My other admin created a custom theme for my forum. We install every single MOD in that one theme... and he made something so that the theme he created is now the default theme... so we wouldn't have to install in the default theme and our theme...

did you install any mods after you installed this? cos you might have to uninstall them first what is the errors anyway?
It gets an error on almost all files it wants to uninstall from.
which means that you probably have other mods installed after this one and you will have to manually remove this mod.

Love the mod and it seems to work great except I cant get it to show the affiliates on the index page, I have it enabled in the admin panel but it just doesnt show up. I uninstalled and reinstalled it, after some work with the file edits, but it still doesnt work, any ideas on what I might be missing?

Are you sure I should change that numbers? I mean, I tried to change them to 20 but affs page always stays blank. When I use original numbers, it works fine.
Hey, when I put the affiliates page on my forum through the W3 validator (http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwhatninja.com%2Findex.php%3Faction%3Daffiliates&charset=%28detect+automatically%29&doctype=Inline&group=0&user-agent=W3C_Validator%2F1.2), it came up with a couple of errors. One was that you didn't close a span tag on the template, but the other is something I don't know how to fix.
Line 217, Column 152: there is no attribute "onload"
The code in the template matching that is:

Should I just remove that onload entry or could that cause problems?
the onload attribute is for the image resizer you can remove it if you dont want images resized i dont know another way of doing this

Hello, I have an earlier vesion of this mod installed on my SMF 1.1 Board. However I need to fix an error but unfortunately no longer have the package. Could someone please send it to me or post here?
My problem is that in the members permission management page I do not get the text next to the check boxes to appear (the text is there in my language files ... so I assume it needs to be declared somewhere?)

But i think i found few other bugs:
If marquee is enabled - animation is speeding, after mouseover it slows down to speed which i set up in admin center.
Next bug is in "My Affiliates". If my site has 2 or more banners mod show only first one and text link.
In (english) translation you have doubled lines for "$txt['AddYourBanners']" , "$txt['YourBanners']" and "$txt['Affiliatesconfig']" maybe there is more...

I just noticed another small, tiny, almost insignificant thing but it's one of those that just eats away at me everytime I see it.
When viewing the "Who's Online" list, there's a spelling mistake when it says "veiwing the Affiliates." It should read "Viewing the Affiliates."
Like I said, just a small thing and nothing that affects the function of the mod in anyway. If you could correct it in a future update then that would be great. Otherwise, it doesn't matter.

PageRank icon hasn't worked for a LONG time now, suprised someone hasn't mentioned it before now because its that way for DJScrappy's site too. It just shows the "alt=" tag not the pagerank icon

Now I get these error messages and I get this even before that, and seen only now. Can you at the first error message so that it does not make this error message instead of the index.php?action=affiliates will be forwarded. Then there are ever fewer messages that are in the error log. For the other error I now know no further. May be they are now gone with the new code. Let's wait a few days.

Visit my site and look at the page listing under "Recommended Sites" menu option, it will be the icon displayed all the way to the right side of the entries, my rating thumbs work fine too...

it works fine with 2.0.2.
the affiliate link is added to the main menu through the use of the code-hooks... you don't need to create a page for it, action=affiliates is a page for it..

1. i will like to make the Affiliate Main menu Link to be somehow Big and move it to where people can see it easily??

Yes, assuming you have the permissions set up correctly, people will be able to add affiliate links and then you can approve them to make them display in the list.

there is something about this mod we really need to look into. the description is "only' when you placed your cursor on the banner. is there any way for some people to see the details under a particular banner. i believe with that. the affiliate arena will be more friendly

You actually do have some valid points about that ICON, but did you even bother to verify whether the page rank indicated in my icon is accurate and jives with the actual Google one? I doubt it...

while checking my site with some different online website analytic , they were all saying my site doesn't have "language code' so i have to add "en" html code. the same with "UTF-8" ( complaining of character encoding)

I'm using the SA Affiliates mod, but i'm running into a problem. I have "Enable Affiliates on Boardindex" checked, but it's not showing up. I've tried uninstalling, and reinstalling the mod. Can anyone help me fix this? This is the only problem i'm having.
are you running smf 1.1.x or did you add a theme to 2.0.x after installing the mod? (or did you misss the "apply this mod to additional themes checkboxes?)
If yes to any of that... you will have to manually apply the mod to your custom themes if you have them

I changed themes. . . So, now i have uninstalled the mod. Trouble is now, it won't re-install back. The page keeps timing out, so i'm not sure if it's the ISP or what. It doesn't matter right now. I can do it when i get off work in 4 hours. I'm just bored to death and need something to do. . lol

I have a problem with this mod, I have 2 SMF foruns and in 1 of then the mod works really nice without problem, but in the 2, when someone clicks on a banner the link of my forum stays first...
Exemple:

Take a second look at that URL, you'll see the problem right there. You added both yours and the affiliates link in the same box when adding their URL.
actually, I think he added the affiliate's url without the http - so the system is trying to interpret it as an internal/relative link.
it resolve by itself... just added again, the same way and it worked... wierd but, yeah, it works now :)

affiliates don't pay - they match banner for banner.
neither is this a "links" mod, so, why categories?

The problem/point is - don't try and "squeeze" a mod into doing something that it's not intended for. That direction is sure to lead to certain destruction... well, maybe not destruction, but problems. :)
Mods and features are fairly specific in what they do and what they can be used for.
I'm not exactly sure what the store mod does... but maybe you could request someone to make a free version which does something similar?
The store mod is a storefront. Sort of like ZenCart but directly integrated. At least, that's my understanding. I don't exactly have a copy to play with.

well... look at the link... it is http. Since that is http, and your site is https, it will indeed show as insecure
that also probably explains why it is not displaying

You did not fully uninstall... therefore, the code was duplicated when you reinstalled.
You will have to manully remove the duplicated code (and there may be additional, non-visible spots where code was duplicated)
