Hostgator broke our forum beyond repair.

Does anybody have any recommendations for other hosting companies where there is less likelihood that the host will break the forum.  https://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=589198.0

Also, what is the best backup format to use to copy from our host?

Thanks.

ICDSoft

You should be able to d/l a full account backup (all files and databases) with host control panel.

Have a look at our Hosts board.

I am not sure I understand what you mean by this? Can you please elaborate a little further?

I use https://hostit.host/ And have done for years without issue.

Also, your cPanel will have a complete file export you can use to recreate your site alternatively ask your new host for a price to move your site.

Best of luck mick

Crocweb does not charge anything to migrate account from old host.  Don't believe ICDSoft does either.
