Simple Machines is extremely proud to announce the release of SMF 1.1 Final.
This release marks the transition of SMF 1.1 into the current stable release of SMF and we encourage all users to upgrade to 1.1 Final as soon as is convenient. For users of SMF 1.1 RC3, this release is a relatively minor change consisting primarily of bug fixes - although we have added a couple of options to help combat the rise in personal message spam. For users of SMF 1.0, the changes between 1.0 and 1.1 (http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?board=40.0;sort=subject) are too numerous to list here - but we're sure you will be delighted with the new items on offer.
In summary, the changes/fixes since SMF 1.1 RC3 include:
- Option to require visual verification when sending a personal message
- Adjusted readability of visual verification system
- Added option to limit number of personal messages that can be sent per hour
- Fixed several javascript errors
- Fixed time offset bug
- Disallowed multiple failures with visual verification
- Made several UTF8 fixes
- Fixed various undefined index errors
Installing/Upgrading informationUpgrading from your current version of SMF to the latest version could not be simpler, just follow the standard procedure of executing upgrade.php. But,
please remember to make a backup!! The upgrader can be used for any installation from YaBB SE 1.5.5 all the way up to the latest version of SMF. You can always find information posted in the Online Manual about things like installations (http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?board=2.0;sort=subject), upgrades (http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?board=3.0;sort=subject), and more (http://docs.simplemachines.org/).
We also invite you to checkout the new Webinstall (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=130316.0) for even easier upgrading and installing.
Thank YouWith this release we'd like to take the opportunity to recognise the effort and dedication of all the people who have volunteered their time to help the Simple Machines project. Over the eighteen months since 1.0 Final we have given our site (http://www.simplemachines.org/) a face lift, relaunched the Mod Site (http://mods.simplemachines.org/), launched the Theme Site (http://themes.simplemachines.org/) and added the Online Manual (http://docs.simplemachines.org/). In addition, our support team has grown and is actively supporting a community of over 60,000 members. So, we'd like to thank everyone, past and present, who has contributed to SMF's development over the past three years. In particular, we'd like to extend special thanks to [Unknown], without whom SMF would never have been possible. We wish him all the best in his future endevours.

It's party time! (Who brings the beers now? :))
It is a great milestone to be seeing SMF 1.1 final out. A lot of hard work was put into it and it now should be the time for those using 1.0 who were hesitant on the stability and security of beta software to upgrade. :)
This is of course just the beginning for SMF! Just before this we saw webinstall.php released which is a rather innovative way to install a web software, making it even easier to install and upgrade SMF.
Congratulations SMF!
Thanks to all the developers who make SMF what it is :D
WOOHOO!!
Thanks so Much...
Can't Wait to get updated... Wonder if I can do it through package manager (*runs off to check) (Dang.. No)
thanks
C'est tres bien et assez intelligent :D
That is great :D
Thanks to everyone who helped developing this major release!
1.1 Final running over here (http://www.chelloo.com/forum), upgrade went without a single problem.
Somebody needs to update the news: News: If you're not yet using the latest version, SMF 1.0.9, please upgrade as soon as possible.
;D
Congratulations to SMF!
This is a great milestone for SMF.
woot grats!
Congrats and so much Thantos and other developers :)

That's fixed :)
So the last bug is cleaned, I wish 1.1 a bug-free life :)
While I am excited to see that 1.1 Final has been released, I am now dreading all the work I have ahead of me - between my own boards and all the boards I help out with, I've probably got close to a dozen boards to upgrade - some of which I never got around to upgrading when 1.1 RC3 was released...
Awesome! Great job!
I'll have to start working on updating my mods now. :P

Oh yeah... That's another thing I have to do. So much stuff to do and not enough time to do it :)
I wish I had a job so I could just take some vacation time to do it, but alas school doesn't give that option :P
This is a great milestone for SMF! My thanks and congratulations to everyone that has made this possible! :D
I better get all of my forums and mods upgraded... With any luck I'll be ready within four hours. :P

Template Changes Between 1.1 RC3 And 1.1 Final (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=129250.0)
Really nice job, congratulations! :)
As I see in the language file, there is a new Copyright Removal "function". Where can it be found? ^^
I've only been using SMF for a few months, and when it went from 1.0.8 to 1.0.9 there was a link in my Admin center that did an upgrade with a click. Is something similar going to be available for 1.1?
I see that in the News section it says to ask for help here if you've made custom modifications. I've modified a bunch of little stuff (header titles, profile titles, logos, specific error messages, etc.), but no program mods. I'm backing up 1.0.9 at this moment, but do I need to do anything special to retain the many text mods I've done? They're pretty much scattered throughout the files. I would've kept a log if I'd thought about it.

There isn't an package upgrade for 1.1, way too many files and changes for that to be feasible. As far as you mods go, you'll have to redo them after the upgrade.

Oh groan! Is it safe to assume that the existing content (messages, profile info, calendar info and events, etc.) will all remain intact in the upgrade?
The 1.1 version sounds fantastic. I might just need to wait till after the first of the year to mess with it if it's going to be labor-intensive to get everything set back up for my flock of technophobes...

Yes Everything in your database would be fine..
And I would do as I do for all my site tweaks and make them a mod package.. ;)
Excellent!! I installed it on a test site and just need to wait for TP and Arcade now - see where they're upto. and then recreate a theme I guess.
Awesome !!!! :D

It's not there yet, as far as I know. It was decided to have the necessary language strings there just in case.
Thanks SMF for this new version!
A couple of questions that have sort of been touched on here -- I assume I should wait to upgrade until the mods that I use are ready for 1.1 Final, right?
Regarding the Arcade, I have never had that installed and needed to do an upgrade so I don't know the answer to this -- will I lose the arcade scores when I upgrade?

1.1 Final, yay!!!
Now to upgrade my board the old fasion way, look at upgrade file there, make changes here.
Good job. ;)
Great news! ;D ;D ;D ;D
Ok hope this isnt an entirely dumb question but.....
When I looked at the downloads page for 1.1 Final. I see two downloads that might apply.
The Large (cause I have mods) and the Smaller (cause I am on 1.1 RC 3)
I have like 40 or more mods, do we still need to uninstall those, or can we just use the "Large" install.
I hope you can make sense of this.
Again I AM on 1.1 RC 3 but have tons and tons of mods.
Thanks

I wish I had enough money to take the SMF staff out congrats them.
I usually wait a few to see if any bugs.
One Question I had was over the last few years it was posted that the Moderation Mod that was cancelled by a member here a modder.
So that project was ended by that modder, but posts said later on that it would be in the final. Is this the final that has the post moderation .?
good job and thanks!!
when i upgrade does it destroy the mods, do i need to wait for the mods to upgrade?
or will they work on this version?
also do i have to uninstall the mods? when i upgrade?
im on 1.1 RC3
but great work everyone
Congratulations, to everyone involved, upon making this final release! An excellent product :)

No new options were promised for this release. This is a stability release, not a test drive for new features.

SMF 1.1 Final is the "Stable" release. To make something stable, you should test all features before it goes gold. If developers were to add new features, 1.1 final wouldn't be a stable release, but a beta software.
You should always expect new features from beta versions, not gold software, or even not release candidates.
Post moderation is always promised as in "the release after 1.1", which definitely doesn't mean 1.1
This website currently runs a version of SMF code named "SMF Development Edition", which already includes post moderation.
Yup another great piece of upgrade software, both sites upgraded within 15 mins without any probs, both sites uses different smf-joomla bridges and no errors what-so-ever!!
GREAT JOB!!
My forum has been succesfully upgraded to latest/newest version 1.1 (final) without problems.
Thank you everybody ;)
The upgrade from 1.0.9 went flawlessly until the end of the extraction process. I hit the "Continue" button, and got the message in doomsday-size type:
"Sorry, the copyright must be in the template. Please notify this forum's administrator that this site is using an ILLEGAL copy of SMF!"
My copy of SMF 1.0.8 was downloaded via Fantastico (after downloading I upgraded manually to SMF 1.0.9).
What might be the problem here?

Upgrading will overwrite all of your files and as such will remove any code changes made by mods. So you'll have to reapply any mods afterwards.

Congratulations! I hope this addresses some of the posting glitches. I know this isn't the place to mention it, but has no one ever noticed that the mechanics for making a list create multiple LIST commands, which then have to be cleaned up? And the FLASH and IMAGE icons don't seem to work properly, neither does the HYPERLINK, yet there is nothing about their use in the HELP. If they work at all, which is rare, all leave artifacts behind, which indicate they are improperly coded. Minor quibbles, but I'm trying to create a monthly newsletter for my members, and would love to be able to include images and FLASH in it. Feel free to shift this message to a tech support forum, but please respond.

Tinyportal 0.9.6 will work on 1.1 Final.. Just need to play with it a little.. search around for emulating your version for installing mods.. I can't remember the exact url you need to use but its possible.
I am so happy this is finally out but I'm seriously considering not upgrading for the fact that while I am using 1.1 RC3 and a custom theme on three yes I said three forums... I just dont wana go in and have to reinstall 10+ mods on 3 forums which will take care of the default theme automatically on install but means I will have to hand code 3 forums for alot of mods on custom themes... one big one being the arcade mod that I use on all three forums... I'm sure others might be willing to "chip in" on this but I would seriously be willing to pay for this if a thing could be made for the package manager which means no mods would need to be removed / re-installed... I dont know about anyone else and what they could or couldnt donate for the task of making a package manager version for upgrading from 1.1 RC3 but if this task gets taken I will chip in the first $20.00...

You could just download both versions and do a file compare with a file comparison utility.. then make the changes on your site to be updated..
True but I'd be afraid to seriously screw something up which I'd most likely do wiht a task this large... but my donation still stands if any of the SMF guys wants to attempt what I mentioned in my last post...

I have 1.0.9 right now. I uploaded webinstall.php and opened it in my browser. Then it asked for setting etc. I entered all the settings and pressed continue. It downloaded files then extracted. Then it says "blah blah click to continue". I click and my forum homepage opens.
What am i doing wrong?
it's better to do it manually. I tried using webinstall.php doesn't work! :'-)

From what you said nothing sounds wrong.. Sounds like it went well..
Could you explain more?
The problem is that its still 1.0.9 :D So, basically it returns to my homepage as it is now.

simply download update package from downloads! Extract all files into thier respective folders. After completion of it, run update.php
don't forget to take backup, better to switch on yr forum maintainence, while updating
missed that..
Can you confirm that the webinstaller didn't work?
Go to Admin then click on More detailed under version information... See what it is returning for those..

Yep, still shows 1.0.9 there.

acdouglas: can you double check that your Subs.php file got updated correctly also.
You mean updated to SMF 1.1? Nothing was updated to 1.1. Webinstall.php returned me to my old 1.0.9 home page with that "missing copyright" message.

Upload the files (Sources, Themes, etc), and run the upgrade.php
yep, doing it right now, thanks!
I tried using web install and using the same settings needed to ftp to my web hosting and it keeps telling me that it can't connect.

not preferable. Wait for 3days, you will get all yr mods....There is nothing much differance between rc3 to 1.1, so it won't be much hard to update mods for mod writers

There was a trick to get the 1.1 mods to work with 1.3, maybe it will work with the final version.
Great news, WOOT! :D
awesome, congrats on the release! was able to watch the Devils-Flyers and Rutgers-WVU games without more than a 2 minute interruption to run upgrade.php from my RC3 installation, and it was smooth as always!
thanks for all the hard work devs and testers, this is the best forums software out there by a longshot!!

Just use the

Why do you think you have to upgrade to RC3 and then to 1.1?
Upgraded using Webinstall, everything is norbal.

My question got lost earlier in the thread -- does anyone know if the upgrade will cause the arcade scores to be reset?

I think that's a question best answered by the arcade mod author. Have you asked that question on the arcade mod thread?

i tried to use the webinstall, everything looked normal and smooth until i got done and i had a bunch of errors like error on line 184 (for example) so now im tring to do it manually. everything looks ok but with the webinstall it still says im using 1.0.9 and at the bottom i have the big copyright problem. with it saying your using an illegal copy and whatnot.. i have read throughout this topic and done what was said but all didnt work so if this manual upgrade doesnt work i dont know what to do..
Doing a manual upgrade will work, as you will be certain you're overwriting all of the files. Use the large upgrade package, since you were running 1.0.9 prior to attempting to upgrade.

Ive personally chosen not to upgrade to 1.1 from RC3 bec of mod issues an not wanting to re-hand code three forums but I can say that no it wont bec scores and stuff are stored on the SQL database... so not it wont affect scores etc...
Congratulations to the dev team!
I just hope that "Password incorrect" -> Login problems are fixed in this release!

I'm having the exact same issue after upgrading from 1.1 RC3-1 using webinstall.php upgrade setting. I have also switched to the default theme.
My Themes/default/languages/index.english.php also contains:
$forum_copyright = '<a href="http://www.simplemachines.org/" title="Simple Machines Forum" target="_blank">Powered by ' . $forum_version . '</a> |
<a href="http://www.simplemachines.org/about/copyright.php" title="Free Forum Software" target="_blank">SMF © 2006, Simple Machines LLC</a>';
Curiously, a detailed forum version check from the Admin panel yields a mish-mosh of versions:

It doesn't look like the upgrade was completely successful. You have two options: try to use webinstall again, or download the small update package (use the large upgrade package if you have mods installed) and perform a manual upgrade.

Cool.. Awesome .. the verfication/captcha for pm's would be of great help against spammers as also the frequency limit :)
I am gonna wait some time for updating as I have so many manual mods.. Its an entire day's job of first thoroughly testing, then applying and putting back all the mods (and finding out that I missed something in the tests) :P
Would be sweet to have a package manager update, although I read it would be very difficult as so many changes.. but one can hope for the next version :)

Sorta had a nightmare wif it :(
QuoteI don't like the idea of manually edit the codes to get it to work with other themes ....
Just wait a bit till the theme is upgraded to be 1.1 compatible. Then remove the old theme, update to SMF 1.1, then install the new compatible theme. Nobody is saying you need to update today. There isn't a lot of new groundbreaking features.
I'm running Dilber MC theme, and have hacked on my Display.template.php myself. I'm going to wait a week, a month? And when Dilber MC is updated to 1.1, and the google location mod is 1.1 (I pray for this one), I'll backup all my files and gopher it!
A good note.. I donated $40 today. Not much, but I won't feel so guilty running great free software anymore. Maybe it will buy the developers a beer or some coffee. Wait, buy coffee! Instant coffee and snort a few lines so you can code faster...lol - Joe www.filipino-michigan.com

hi, i'm interested in upgrading my smf 1.1rc3 to 1.1 final... but i would like to know what details are changed, such as database tables and things, because my host currently is in the middle of upgrading/moving and has halted database write access, so i can't even get access to it for backup. I've made a backup of the forum settings and everything else atm. So basically wondering if i upgrade to 1.1 and i encounter problems, and decided to roll back to rc3 from my backup, would that be alright? would the tables and such be intact without "change" from upgrade??
Thanks

"Sorry, the copyright must be in the template.
Please notify this forum's administrator that this site is using an ILLEGAL copy of SMF!"
What that means ILLEGAL?? No way, its not illegal. Its very large announcement now below in my forum! PLEASE HELP!
Just done the 1.1 final major upgrade....And now I have illegal warning !!!
Sorry, the copyright must be in the template.
Please notify this forum's administrator that this site is using an ILLEGAL copy of SMF!
Before the upgrade there was a SMF COPYRIGHT ???
I don't know what went wrong?
Great Job, Thnx.. :)
rerally, really, really, really thanks for this release!
I hope you'll continue this beautiful work! ;)
Well, I'll have lots of work to do this morning. Yay. :)
Thanks for the build and I hope the upgrade goes as well as everything else has. Coding a new template is going to suck but I might as well get my hands dirty now. *sighs at mods that will need to be fixed up*
Next up: Beer and code. Who could ask for anything more?
i was able to do the upgrade without any problem but i want to know if i still need to manually edit and replace those codes?
For people getting copyright error messages for some reason your files must be out of date. That message doesn't appear in 1.1 Final - we changed it to be something less scary. Can you open Sources/Subs.php and confirm the version number at the top? It should say 1.1.
Congrats to the whole team!

AAHH.. please help.
Strange, the back-up works now.....and i didn't do anything.

Hello Everybody!
I translatated and made the Hungarian language pack of SMF 1.1 final version, but I don't know where I have to send it for publishing on simplemachines.org.
UTF-8 (http://novoportal.hu/letoltesek/nyelvi_csomagok/smf_1.1_final_utf-8_magazo_magyar_nyelvi_csomag/details-2.html)
Normal (http://novoportal.hu/letoltesek/nyelvi_csomagok/smf_1.1_final_magazo_magyar_nyelvi_csomag/details.html)
On both of page you have to click on the Letöltés bottom
Thank you!

To everyone with a copyright notice: the webinstall upgrade process did not work for you. If you have mods installed or you are not currently running RC3, use the large upgrade package and upgrade manually. If you are running RC3 with no mods, use the small update package.

Great job!
Lots of mods developers who was waiting for 1.1 final to update their mods can work now!
Go on modders. work wait you lol... ;)
We have started french language package update, we'll give soon to the team.... ;)

With mods, you are best off using the upgrade package.
i got it working i believe. i did the large update. i did not see that is the one that you are to use if you are mods.
thanks
mike aka daboroe
My question never got answered early. There is a constant reference to using the larger package if u have mods installed. But whats the purpose of using it when you have to uninstall all of the mods before upgrading anyway? or are you saying we do NOT have to uninstall mods but just rather run that upgrade and everything will be good to go?
Thanks
The update package updates the files editted whilst the upgrade package holds all the files except for settings.php
Updated my test forum from RC3 last night, and hopefully everything will go just as smoothly when we upgrade the live forum from 1.0.9 tomorrow morning :)

Probably if the mods did not correctly uninstall or if you've done manual updates to custom themes.
When I upgraded from RC2 to RC3 I ran into a lot of errors as I uninstalled my mods, but wasn't concerned since everything was going to be over written anyway.
This is great news indeed, but i am a little hessitant to upgrade. I've got a joomla site running with community builder, and smf integrated into that. The risk of upgrading from rc3 to v1.1 outweighs the gain i think. What do you guys think?
Upgraded from 1.0.9 last night to 1.1 on my test machine. Then did the same live and all went smooth except SSI.php has been changed enough to hose my front page. I was able to recover with some copy/paste action.
Thanks!
Why utf8 languages files are encoded in ansi and not in utf8?
is it due to utf8 bugs corrections?
thanks! ^_^
Excellent job guys you people rock :D
lol wow, it comes out less than a week after i convert to smf 1.1 RC3 lol, i'll upgrade to this later, give my RC3 a couple weeks lol
This is what I am getting when I try to install it thru package manager
The package you tried to upload either is not a valid package or has become corrupted.
5cakids,
This upgrade cannot be done with the package manager - it's too big. Look at the first post in the topic for a link to the manual.
littleone,
If you upload the contents of the upgrade package you'll find it overwrites every file and hence all your mods end up uninstalled.
How many changes were made to SSI.php? My whole site basically runs off of it. I have some custom functions and all of my web pages use template layers. Will all of this stil lwork?
I wanna say thank you to the SMF team for making such a good forum bulletin board! :)
GREAT! Now we are looking forward to the next version, lets hope for a more professional theme.

There were very few changes made. What you could do is download some file compare software to compare them. Looking at it myself, there seems to be just two small lines of code added to that file since RC3.

The mods are not there after the upgrade, its like they are uninstalled.
Some will reinstall, others will not.
Most of the current mods will be updated soon, just give them time.
Make a backup of your site and run a upgrade to see how it works.
No packages work for this version, I always get this:

Thanks for this great piece of software!

With 'encoded in' I assume you mean the first two bytes? Whether or not they are present doesn't really matter for PHP, as far as I know. As for SMF, both methods are used.
Thanks

This upgrade has been a disaster. First, ad management mod renders the upgrade unusable. Trying to install clean and the installer will not connect to my sql database...so I'm hanging big time. Ideas anyone?
Also, webinstall can't connect to ftp server. Using the exact same setting with webinstall as I am in my ftp software.
Hi,
I was using the RC3 Forum... in which i had some vital packages. I upgraded mine using the small update.
I seem not to be able to use some of the packages... i just can see list files or delete. I just read that u had to use the big update. What should i do now? Shall i run the big update or do i have to do something else to solve the problem?
Note... i have a backup of the files if they r needed
Thanks,
KG

I'm not clear how this update differs from 1.1 RC1, RC2 and RC3 when it comes to compatible mods and themes. What version should I be looking for when adding themes with this? Are there any differences that matter for that?

Thanks for the work and for releasing v1.1.
I've been waiting for v1.1 for a while now. I'm still using v1.0RC2 because I lacked foresight at the time and heavily modified my source files so I held off upgrading until the next significant version. Let the litany of hours making a theme for v1.1 begin!
This is awesome. I wonder if there will be a TP for it too.

Yes, of course there will be. The next release, TP .9.7 (out soon), will be compatible for SMF 1.1. :)
But, if you search TinyPortal.net (http://www.tinyportal.net), you'll find how to use the current release, .9.6, with 1.1. ;)
But, if you have any more questions or anything about TinyPortal, please don't ask them here, take them there.
Worked perfect without a single problem,

Good job I tested the upgrade first, it broke all the MODS I currently have installed, the hide tag being the most important, is not compatible with v1.1, so will have have to hold off upgradeing for the time being.
I suspected this might be the case, thats why I ran it on my test forum first.
My members send me a private messages to say that theirs email adresses are visible for all other users even they dont give permision in their profile account to announce that in public!
Maybe it is new serious bug?!?!
Ok, so I've been thinking about this alot and no matter how much I hate the idea of it I've decided to upgrade even if it means I lose all the mods that I have installed and that I'll have to re-do them... but there are some concerns I have... which of the packages will I need to use bec I currently have I think like 13 mods installed... also when upgrading how do I know that all the files that the mods are installed in will be over written... bec after I upgrade to 1.1 final I dont wana go to re-install a mod and find I cant bec of some code that stuck behind in a file that wasnt over written... hope all this makes sense but I dont wana [ut myself in a bind trying to re-install mods after upgrading to 1.1 final... bec as it stands I cant uninstall some of my mods bec of custom code changes... if I could uninstall em it would make this alot easier... anyway hope this makes sense... when replying please be as clear as possible , Ty !

No, their email addresses aren't visible. They can see their own email address. Check it yourself: log out of your forum and look at the members list while you are a guest. You won't see anything.
I already provided a hack that always hides email addresses. Search for email kegobeer and you should find it.

Seems to be all about 1.1 beta testers upgrading. What about 1.0.9 users? There's more of us oldies ::)
I have no 'mods' but tons of tweaks in the CSS files and index_template files. Can I just overwrite the upgraded one with my changes/old files? I suspect not. But my theme (although looks subtle) has many CSS changes.
Any template tips? :D

Oh right. I just kind of assumed you were using 1.1 RC3, even though I remember awhile back that you were using 1.0. ;) There were quite a few changes in SSI.php. A compare tool picks up a pretty good comparison on exactly how it is different. There are changes in the functions, but usually not too drastic.

Great, now I know how to spend Xmas holiday - upgrading forums and mods.
SMF still has a long way to go, but this is an important milestone, albit a painfully prolonged one.
Time to think about feature request for SMF 1.2... or maybe 2.0?

Hi all,
I just cant figure out which is the most proper and best way to upgrade my forum version 1.0.9 to 1.1..
Webinstall.php and Upgrade.php are making me confused...
Any help?
I have been trying to upgrade by overwriting my 1.0.9 files with 1.1 files.. but i had problems like: your database is on 1.0.2 version, and i cant access my forum because sources/load.php had string problems or something..
Any advice will help really.
I am using a SMF forum version 1.0.9, i have difficulties to upgrade it to the new version 1.1.
I can't do this in the usuall way in my admin panel like i used to do with other updates (from 1.0.8 to 1.0.9), is there any other specific rule or how it can be done?
My Thanks to the development tem for the 1.1 final release-
After a little stumbling with the upgrade, my forum is now at ver 1.1 and FASTER than ever.
A huge improvement over 1.0.9.
Thanks again! :D
yay i upgraded the forum!
ok jus get the upgrade 1.1 from www.simplemachines.org/downloads
then unzip and upload everything thru ftp to your server - overwrites everything (make sure you back up first)
then run the upgrade.php

The default theme doesn't look like that. If you're using the default theme, make sure you uploaded all of the theme files. If you still have problems, open a new thread or post in an existing one in the Install and Upgrade support forum, as this is not a support thread.
Any advices on Mods upgrade from RC3 to final?
I see for instance that Subs-Package has changed a lot...
thanks for your work smf familyy :D :D
OK I am quite new to this, before I have upgraded via the package manager so do I need to use ftp to upload all of the upgrade files? Also do I delete the old files or what? I really don't want to ruin my forum so I need help please. Thanks.
You should install it through Webinstall then, it's simple, easy and only takes one file.
Download webinstall:
http://www.simplemachines.org/downloads/
Then upload it to your forum folder, run the script and it's done
Right well I managed to do that but the webinstall is claiming that my ftp details are wrong when I know full well they aren't! Whats going on?
@clactongirl2002: Please don't post support requests in this News topic. Check the Install and Upgrade board for a similar thread and post on that instead.

one more up to have your answer compuart, thanks.
Well, imho notepad isn't an ideal editor. Most editors (I use EditPlus) truely support UTF_8 and show the files properly. Btw, for official translation purposes, only a non-UTF-8 package is needed, as we can automatically create a UTF-8 version.
I used that one but I cant download any new skins I mean install them is there a way you could make it so I can?

Ok, cause your utf8 languages files all delivered before this version for smf were in utf8 code format, so i was thinking it's strange to have them in ansi code format at the open and the save only since this version...
I was think about it's cause you have fixed utf8 problems by a system change or corrections which induce this language file coding format change...
So we can really deliver language files for smf coded in ansi for utf8 language files version (like they are...), no problem with?

As of what I said previously, we have no seperate package; there is not really a difference between the PHP and MySQL used, so just use the regular install package and you'll be find. If you go to http://docs.simplemachines.org, you will be able to work on from there.
Is there anyway I could downgrade to 1.1 RC3? I think that there's more package things for RC3 than the final version, I really want that shop mod :P
It's well known to wait before update smf that mods are updated too lol...(but you can wait a lot of certains!)
But Im still a newbie, I dont know any better! :P
EDIT: Ha! I managed to downgrade to RC3! :P Im gonna reupgrade when more mods become availabe for 1.1 final.
most mods will work on 1.1
You just need to emulate your version while installing mods
when you are at package manager add this at the end of the url..
;emulate_version=1.1 RC3
Is the option to send a message/email to all members still available? Looking for where it use to be but can't find it.

If you go to http://docs.simplemachines.org, you will be able to work on from there.
Many thanks and I will give that a try.
Quotemost mods will work on 1.1

Dosen't work for me.
I just updated my main forum (well, in the process of it), and I must say, it was quite painless (I haven't really done a large SMF upgrade such as this before...).
I was having some problems with my theme, but I hacked together a SMF 1.1-compatible one, and am installing it now :D
I've released SMF1.1 Japanese language pack.

Just installed the new 1.1 and having a problem in all templates
When We click the Mark Read button ( Alles Gelezen ) we get the following message
QuoteAn Error Has Occurred! Session verification failed. Please try logging out and back in again, and then try again.
Logging in and out don't help all stays the same ?

Sounds like old templates, try the default template, mark as read contains the session id in 1.1 so it sounds like you don't have this in your templates.
In a Simple Machines defuald template it Works , houw can I get in the template that is in use ?

Please try re-uploading the new themes and sources by hand as WebInstall comes up with this problem.
Problem solved for LuxSat , used upgrade template and is now compatible with 1.1

What they said. I cannot get the new version to install. I have DLed it from the appropriate area but my package manager says it is corrupt. I tried this process 3x and have never had an issue with an update/upgrade before.
Please help!!
