i think boilerplates ist an unfortunately chosen word
shortanswer for admins and mods should better describe, what this modification does

if an admin or mod answer in threads they can use a dropdown menu with some special answers given in a list

it should be great for our own support - if your users have problems and you´re tired typing always the same long answers for always the same questions you choose one of these given answers and you only need a few clicks

i hope you´ll understand my bad english

This is an interesting mod, thanks Do².

I was thinking it was a more of a post-template style mod until I had it installed (which went fine on a heavily modded 1.1.10 btw), but it was more of an optional thing.

I kinda dig it but I'll need to play around a bit more and determine whether it actually has a proper use on my board.

I love the idea though, great work!!!

Thanks at all, i hope you enjoy my mod. ;)

Some information:

With this mod i want to support admins and moderators in other forums. They can use the drop down list, which is added by the mod to the editor, to insert predefined text modules (boilerplates) to the post. For expample very helpfull in supportboard, if you have to answer every time the same question. With my mod you have the possibility to predefine text modules in acp and insert easily via a drop down list into the post.

I added some pictures and a link to a demo board.

Please feel free to translate the mod and report bugs. ;)

Thanks for using my mod.

They should make NAO a mod on the Aeva and SMF media gallery boards and have him use this mod to answer the same questions over and over.

Important Update for 1.1.10 users!

I advise every 1.1.10 user with this mod to update to 1.2.1!

I fixed a bug, which brokes the PM Editor.

Known bug: Not compatible with the active WYSIWYG editor. I'm going to fixe this bug. This update need some time, because i have to rewrite a part of the mod.To avoid this bug: If you want to insert a boilerplate, you have to switch from WYSIWYG editor to normal editor (this is the red "A" on BBCButton)![/]

Did you uninstall the previous version and uploaded the new? You won't get a messag in admin panel, if there are new versions.
You have to look sometime here and maybe there's a new version.

I checked all the files again and they are all in the correct version.

This mod sounds interesting.  Can templates (boilerplate) be created for each board ?  I have boards which are general discussion, and others that are classifieds, and need two different templates.

At the moment different templates aren't supported! You can group the boilerplates in a simple way. For example it could look like this:

-----------
boilerplate for general 1
boilerplate for general 2
-----------
boilerplate for sth. other 1
boilerplate for sth. other 2

Oh, wait! I was wrong, it is possible. You can use the BBC tag [br] or if HTML is allowed <br  />. ;)

Hi there,

For some reason this mod seems to work in Internet Explorer (version 8.0.700), but doesn't appear to work in Firefox (I'm running 3.5.7)? Not quite sure why this might be?

Amazing modification!

But i have a little problem.
Could you add something like "enter".

Ex.
When I select boilerplate, we will see... attach 1
Users are lazy, as we know, so I would like to make it looks like attach2 ;D

This will facilitate work and improve the appearance of design  :)
PS: [ br] & <br> doesn't solve problem.

I already said it is unimportant and i have no time to look for a solution. ;)

Edit: It's not a fix, because it isn't a bug, but: for a linebreak use \n. This should help to insert the boilerplate with a linebreak directly, but just in non-wysiwyg!

Hi installed the mod on 2.0RC2 and i had the same problem as Dismal Shadow.

All my emotions and bb codes dissapeared..

Also its a great mod.. 1 problem u only get a single line.. A multi Line Text Box would be best for this..

Should definatly look at updating this as it would claim usefull in many many forums..

Nice work..

Hmm, I'm using it on RC2 and it works in IE, but does not seem to want to work in Firefox 3.6  I tested this a couple times in different posts.  In Firefox, nothing gets posted into the reply.  In IE, it gets posted every time I click.

Title: Re: Boilerplates for posts V2.0.2
Post by: C4G-TK on February 22, 2010, 04:44:31 PM
I think it possibly has to do with the theme that I'm using.  I looked into this a little more last night and on my other site (with Price Of Darkness), it works in Firefox.  The other site that I'm using it does not work.  Most all of the mods are the same on both sites.  The only thing that is different is the theme.

Disregard the problem.  I'm not sure what the deal was.  Last night, it was not working on Firefox.  Today, I look it up on Safari, IE, and Firefox and they all are working.  Not sure if it was a cache problem with the site or possibly the browser.

I will look if this issue can be solved. It's a bit complicated, because the linebreakcode is different for non-wysiwyg and wysiwyg editor.

\n works with non-wysiwyg and <br> with wysiwyg editor. That's the problem and i think a textarea won't solve the problem.

That's no bug. You need one of them for the whole forum (pm, etc.) and the other for the boards. So you can set permissions for the boardmoderators, too. ;)

I will think about a better way, but at the moment i had to work on my project. ;)

Hi Do, great MOD  ;)

Still waiting for multiple lines. That will be super great and solve a lot of problems.

Thanks. I will try to include multiple lines support in the next update, but i can't promise.

Yeah when you can have a multiline textbox with an admin panel where you can add custom boiler plates or where members who allowed to add boiler plates can use this panelto create there own would be awsome..
Single line wouldn't be muce use to me..
We tend to answer the same questions all the time If the boiler plates was multi line we would save huge amounts of time.
I'm using the stikki pad on win 7 lol.. I copy and paste everything from there..

Hope to see it soon.

Great work

BUG-ALERT!

I found two bugs while giving support.

One could appear, if another mod was installed, while editing the permissions. To avoid the parse error, change the following in the ManagePermissions.php:

              ),
              //END Boilerplates for posts

to

              )
              //END Boilerplates for posts

You have to change this twice. ;)

The other bug: In 1.1.x it isn't possible to prohibit people using the mod while posting.

Both bugs will be fixed in the next update!

Thanks for the v3.0. This is an incredibly useful modification.

But when adding boilerplates in the admin panel, these errors are generated:

http://www.sharks.info/smf/index.php?www
Undefined index: back_to_top_title
File: /home/sharks/public_html/smf/Themes/default/BoardIndex.template.php (main_below sub template - eval?)
Line: 478

http://www.sharks.info/smf/index.php?www
8: Undefined index: regbar_text
File: /home/sharks/public_html/smf/Themes/default/BoardIndex.template.php (main_above sub template - eval?)
Line: 190

Also, maybe you could add a nicer way of removing the boilerplates, with a delete button next to it, instead of having to clear all the text in the boilerplates and then click on save button.

Also, a "save as draft" or "disable" option would be useful, if some template is to be disabled temporarily and then enabled later on, without having to write it all over again.

And a full post editor would be most useful in the boilerplates admin panel, with icons to make text bold, italic, including emoticons, so that preparing the templates can be made easier and faster.

BTW, how do i change the position of the boilerplates' drop-down list in the forum's post editor? Currently, it is located just above the emoticons, but i want to move it right under the "message icon" where it will get more attention from members, and also how to make the text normal size?

I don't think an other way of deleting is that important, because normaly you don't change the boilerplates many times. The "save as draft" idea isn't bad, maybe I add it with the next update. ;) A full editor is to much and good in the way of configuration I choose.

Nice mod and a feature request. I think the only thing missing form this mod at this point is a per boilerplate permission setting where you can define which group(s) can see a specific boilerplate and which ones cannot.

Example:

(https://www.simplemachines.org/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi53.tinypic.com%2F28h1lkm.png&hash=ed3d64a5540860babf60e79d9654f8de84ef477c)

Clicking on the groups link could toggle a DIV element which shows the current member groups that you have on your forum with a checkbox for each group.

This way you could still allow groups (like moderators for example) to use the boilerplate mod, but then limit which boilerplate's they can actually see in the drop down menu.

Again thanks for the nice mod and hope this request makes it into the next version.

Cheers,
Nosx

Rather than using a nasty word that no one understands like "Boilerplates" why not rename the mod to "Canned Responses" ... I think that one is much more clear and most people understand what canned responses are... and they are essentially the same thing.

I agree. I myself had a hard time to figure out what that mod meant or what it did, until i read the description. I find the mod title aggressive "boiler" (what does it boil? lol) and inappropriate. I would suggest something more simple and straight-forward, like PostTemplates or AutoTemplates (for automatic post templates, which is exactly what it is).
Most popular mods use rather easy to understand names, without the need to read their description to know what those modifications do to the forum after installation.

Ok, looks like content must be unique.  So there's no way to have to boilerplate forms that are identical with distinct titles?  I can see some need for that.

Thanks for the reply and solution (and great mod).

In my case I'm using the boilerplates as templates to keep track of various types of inquiries that come into our office. In most cases, I want the template to include things like Name, Address, Phone, etc. but to be titled differently to make it easier for the poster who might not be very experienced with posting on forums.

It's easy to just change up the content of each template a little and have everything work fine, I'm just giving an example of what I was doing that led me to that question.

If WYSIWYG is activated, you'll have to focus the textfield. It's the same procedure as with changing color and so on. It definitely should work in chrome and IE with WYSIWYG turned on.

Post Template? That sound's good and no "updated" mod has that name. Also it installed no errors on 2.0 FINAL but I added a "boilerplate" and went to a topic, in Quick-Reply and full Reply it didn't appear with the dropdown, although I only have 1 ATM.

EDIT:
I see it in full-on reply. Can you make it work for Quick-Reply as I use it more than the full reply

EDIT 2:
When i select one, it doesn't appear in the body.

if i list all modifications, there´s no possibility to install modification, but a point with advanced to emulate

next try was to change the packege file (delete RC4) and the installation runs, but when i got forwarded

Yes. There's only one package for this mod

Hmm, weird, I can't find something that searches for "topics' => array('ModifyTopicSettings', 'admin_forum')," :(

Does this work with 2.0 final? I suppose not, as it's still at 2.0 RC4. If it's updated, i suggest that the name of this mod be renamed, as it still makes no sense at all! LOL

I have a lot of mods installed.  I can tell you the following that if this is the second edit of Sources/ManagePosts.php is found here in my file:

$subActions = array(
'posts' => 'ModifyPostSettings',
'bbc' => 'ModifyBBCSettings',
'censor' => 'SetCensor',
'topics' => 'ModifyTopicSettings',
// START Boilerplates for posts
'boiler' => 'ModifyBoilerplatesSettings',
// END Boilerplates for posts
'automerge' => 'ModifyAutoMergePostSettings',
);

On the mod site, it is asking you to look for...  'topics' => 'ModifyTopicSettings',

and not...  'topics' => array('ModifyTopicSettings', 'admin_forum'),

You are trying to do the second edit of Sources/ManagePost.php, right?

look for:
'topics' => 'ModifyTopicSettings',

and then add this after that line:
// START Boilerplates for posts
'boiler' => 'ModifyBoilerplatesSettings',
// END Boilerplates for posts

now I have a parse error...

1) Make sure you've done the other two edits for that file (and the other files).

2) Those lines are fine.  I have those lines exactly as you and I'm not pulling any errors with this mod.

Has anybody that's had a problem getting this to work in Google's Chrome browser found a solution to make it work?  I just reinstalled it on our forum (since updating to 2.02) and even with a fresh copy of Chrome installed on my new computer laptop, it still won't insert what we have in the boiler plates into our message.

Hoping somebody has found a solution for this since the last time it was reported that it wouldn't work with chrome since I use I.E. even less now than back then.

Thanks

Maybe you have something installed in Chrome as an add-on that is preventing it?  I just have Chrome installed completely bare.

I know this is a very old topic, but maybe you could update it for 2.0.4 with the addition of users being able to create their own "Boilerplates"? I want to give some of the membergroups in addition to staff access to this on my Minecraft Server's website.

Like for example:
Group 1 can create 5 Boilerplates, Group 2 can create 7 Boilerplates, Group 3 can create 10 Boilerplates, Group 4 can create 15, and so on. Fully configurable number of "Boilerplates" for each group. I'd be willing to donate to help you develop this update.

Sorry for resurrecting an old topic. I really love this mod and cannot figure out an issue I'm having.

When I select a template from the menu and it inserts the text, it's changing some of the special characters (specifically " & < > and possibly a few others that I hadn't tried) to their html codes (&quot; &amp; etc).  Is this a known issue, or am I just missing something somewhere? Alternatively, does anyone have an idea of how to fix it?

I've checked all the files and everything is correct for this mod. I have v3.0 and SMF 2.0.7.

Hey, I recently installed this mod on my RP forum with the intention of using the boilerplates to auto-insert character application codes into posts for the members to fill out. However, there seems to be some sort of setting in place that prevents the mod from accepting any text past a certain length. I don't get a generated error, and my templates say they save correctly -- but if I have more than the "allowed" amount of text, it saves as an empty boilerplate. (ie, it doesn't truncate past the limit, it simply deletes everything I entered). Is there a place in the code I can modify to change the length of text allowed in the templates?

Thank you in advance for your time.

What did you do just before you could "no longer access to modify my Boiler Plates"?
What "issues" are you getting if you uninstall? (or did you uninstall and ignore the errors you got when you attempted it?)

I don't remember what I did before I lost access to I was asked to bring back the forum after a long hiatus.

I am running SMF 2.0.9

Originally when trying to delete the mod I got the error files do not exist, I tried to load 3.1 but I relieved a message saying the mod was already installed.

After doing much research I pasted the zip file into my packages section and NOW I receive the error, package does not include uninstall contact the package creator.

If I could be given an idea of where to add back access on my admin menu or how to actually uninstall that would be fantastic.

There is a mod parser on the mod download page...   Read the install instructions in reverse....

And yes... Always backup first.

just found this mod and it would be great for long posts of events where only a few dates change but info all needs to be retyped.

One problem though if the boiler plate is to many characters it disappears when i goto save it in the admin section.

Ok, I find the problem.

Open Editor.js.
$themedir/scripts/editor.js

find this line:
!this.bRichTextEnabled ? surroundText(sValue, '', this.oTextHandle) : this.smf_execCommand('inserthtml', false, sValue);

replace with:
if (!this.bRichTextEnabled)
{
surroundText(sValue, '', this.oTextHandle)
}
else
this.smf_execCommand('inserthtml', false, sValue);

Chrome maybe not accept the if in one line.

Now the mod works.

While I understand what you mean - that does not change the legalities of the issue...

Whether or not the author is still around, they still own the rights to their code and - unless they have included the code with a permissive license, there is no redistribution of the mod or distribution of a modified version allowed, under international law.

You can, as you have, tell people what the fix is and how to do it.
You can not repackage the mod with your fixes and distribute it.
