Dear Members,
Simple Machines is pleased to announce a new patch for the 2.0.x line of SMF, which pushes the version number to
2.0.18.
The patch is focused on PHP 7.4 support as well as other issues encountered on previous versions such as
- Policy acceptance missing id_member.
- Addresses PHP parse errors when using SMF file cache
- Avoids truncating Settings.php until after we have a lock on the file
- Tighten up security checks, bring in sync with 2.1
- Brought the UTF16-to-UTF8 logic over from 2.1
- Always include email address when downloading user's own profile data
- Fix missing info affecting logging for new registrations
- Fixes bugs with multi-version jumps (via CLI) where settings weren't refreshed
- Set utf8 as default going forward
Please see the changelog (https://download.simplemachines.org/index.php?thanks;filename=smf_2-0-18_changelog.txt) for more information.
If you are currently using version 2.0.17 you can perform the update using the package manager, once available you will see a notification update within your admin panel. please run the scheduled task "Fetch Simple Machines files" from the Scheduled Tasks page (Admin > Maintenance > Scheduled Tasks). Same logic applies if you want to update your forum from an older version, you can apply each patch successively until you reach out to 2.0.18
If you use
an older version of SMF, you can upgrade directly to 2.0.18 from whichever version you are currently using by using the "Large Upgrade" package from the Download (https://download.simplemachines.org) page. Be aware that using this upgrade method will require you to reinstall any customizations that you have added to your forum, so if you are running a version of the 2.0.x series, it is recommended that you apply the successive patches instead of using the Large Upgrade.
If you are having problems downloading the patch from the admin panel, you can download the patch package from the Package Manager Updates (https://custom.simplemachines.org/upgrades/) page and install it via the Package Manager, as you would any other mod package.
Please refer to the Online Manual for more details about patching (https://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Patching) and upgrading (https://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Upgrading).
Finally, as always, please do
not use this topic for support requests. You will receive a much quicker and better response by posting in the 2.0.x Support Board (https://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?board=147.0).
Thank you for using SMF!
Regards,
Simple Machines

And?? Did we indicate that ipv6 was or would be in 2.0.18?
Jeez.
You could rephrase that as "Minor version patches to 2.0.x are not intended to add major new features".
I could.... but I'm not that nice. See my title?
whoooohoooooooo ;D
nice,
Thanks!
I know it's not officially supported, but the forum is running great here in PHP 8.0.1
This is a very welcome update, thanks to all those involved.
A thank you to the devs, contributors, testers and everyone else involved :)
Good work everyone ;).
Congratulations! :)
Thanks to all the folks that worked on giving us SMF 2.0.18.
Great! This means php version (security) support for another in 1 year, 9 months before needing any compatibility update for php 8 or later :)
Thank you guys! Soon i will to go update my forum.
Good work. Thanks. :)
The package version is 0.1.0 in the package manager. I guess it should be 1.0
SMF 2.0.18 Update 0.1.0
Important: If someone made a change to the script.js file from this tutorial, he should restore the original codes in this file before updating to 2.0.18

It's not officially supported, but 2.0.18 works without issues in PHP 8.01 - giving us 2 years, 9 months :)
Thank for good work, everyone :)
nice to see a new release fixing these issues
Thank you for the update! ;)
Congrats. About php version, I guess 2.0.18 works on 7.2 and 7.3 without problems since this was not mentioned?

Yes. As did 2.0.17.
Hello,
Congratulations for this update.
Is there a topic where the files that have been modified are listed?
Let me explain, I have a lot of mods and homemade scripts and I think that updating normally won't work.
and I'd rather not go through all the files if it's not necessary.
Thanks in advance ;)
Here you go: https://custom.simplemachines.org/upgrades/index.php?action=upgrade;file=smf_patch_2.0.18.tar.gz;smf_version=2.0.17
Best way to cycle through the files is to Ctrl+F for ./ (all file names have that in front).
thanks a lot :)
Thank you to all you smart SMF Devs and Heroes!!

you do know that you can apply patches via the package manager rather than overwriting to upgrade?
So is this this topic now ok for support requests?
@Shambles, This is just the topic for the announcement... Support goes true the support boards :D

That's doesn't even make sense.
as always this is just an announcement thread....all support should be made by creating a new thread in the SMF 2.0.x Support (https://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?board=147.0) with your specific support issue(s)

2.0.17 ---> 2.0.18
easy, flawless, fast, upgrade. :)
Did not see it mentioned, but you have fixed the problem where we could not clean out the administration log. THANK YOU ! :D
Mine was 102 pages and I could not delete any of the entries.
Great work. 17 to 18 done in seconds.
Thank you for the new release.
Considering all the changes in 2.0.18 I was hesitant in upgrading but all went very smoothly and no conflict with the mods listed in my signature line. Great work Team. :)
Just popping in to say thank-you for this release. :D
Took seconds to upgrade, no issues, now using PHP 7.4.
Nice.

Este es el tema en inglés. Si necesitas ayuda, acude a la sección española.
This is the english thread. If you need help, post in the spanish board.
That's great news! :)
Will 2.0.18 be the final 2.0.x release?
Probably not. Depends what needs patching in future, but 2.0.x will be supported for a while yet.
Working well at (link removed) using PHP 7.4. Thank you for this update :D
Support Team edit: link removed as it's already in your signature.
Update completed, no problems.
Did it by just clicking the link that had magically appeared in the admin console.
On behalf of everyone who enjoys my forum, thank you.
I thought it would give problems but I was updating several sites without problems in a few minutes and in some I really needed it, It's a great job, congratulations! :D
"8: Undefined index: name" bug in error log still isn't fixed. :-\

This isn't the topic for that.
Great news, thank you! I just received an email from my hosting provider announcing that they'll stop supporting PHP 7.1 soon, so this was very timely. :)
Great news team. Looking for an update on my large forum using SMF 2.1 Beta 1 till date.

If you're going to use a version that hasn't been released for production yet you really should upgrade it to RC3. :)
I think that is good. Thank you so much
Congrats, and thank you. ;)

Thank, you, really, thank you honestly all who have contributed SMF developing!
When we were choosing a forum platform, I strongly pushed SMF, and one of my arguments was I believed that it will be actively developed also in future.
But OMG, every time I see new release, my heart skip a beat.
Only some mods, but soooooo much customization...
I ask my question in some other topic, because this probably not the right place.
But even you are killing me, still, thank you, great job! :)
Quote]But even you are killing me
Stop worrying about that. You'll figure everything out and no one is going to jump down your throat if you get something wrong. :)
Finally writing something about this great version... 2.0.18!!
Love that there is really very few errors, compared to 2.0.17. :D
Great job on this version and Thank You all involved in help making it.
Thank you, Thank you! :D <3
Nice Update .. Congratulations Team..
Hello, I have a question regarding;
! Double quotes needed to evaluate for HTML tags
Can someone post an example of this? What has exactly changed??
One of my personal modifications stopped working after the 2.0.18 patch and I'm trying to pinpoint the issue.

Am I reading correctly that I can't upgrade my existing version of smf to the r4 version? I am having huge problems with hackers attacking my site and overwriting my smf files and sending out spam and I need to upgrade to something that is hopefully less subject to these attacks. I was hoping to do this with R4 but not sure what I should do now.
Thanks,
Glenn
